Run Toward Joy

THis asks a very good question, but I think it comes from fear of being hurt, which DOES happen. Once you've known the joy of love and lost it, you fear going through that pain again, since it is so awful. I was there once myself, but I got lucky and found a very patient man who didn't give up.

Hello Brooke
so true to what you said-
to open the right door
to find happiness Learn to love and accept an embrace.

This is a simple but touching poem with rhyming abab lines. I reminds us to be more accepting of love. There is much mistrust in todays' world. And that is sad.

I like the questions that you use in this. I agree that sometimes people run away from "joy and its embrace." Maybe they feel they don't deserve it. Maybe it comes with strings attached that aren't welcome. A good thought to embrace the joy when love is offered. Excellent rhyme, and a smooth flow. A pleasure to read. judi

A lovely poem, Brooke. And isn't it so truy that we often run from joy because we fear the consequences of giving up our comfort zones.

Again, Brooke, you give wisdom to the young (and old) that is so easy to take--and understand. I know my three-year-old granddaughter shies away from me when I try to give her an embrace. I know it's not because she sees me as an ogre, but as you put it it's "an easy choice to make . . . as if a tender touch has snatched us in its grasping clutch." I don't think you could express this any clearer. I, too, pray she will someday see I am just offering love. Two nice quatrains that say so much. Thanks for sharing! Rod

A nice job, Brooke, with the rispetto. It has the abab ccdd rhyme scheme and the iambic tetrameter which makes it flow smoothly. And the message is clear that we should never be afraid to run toward the joy. Sweet picture. 8-)

I really enjoyed this well-written, rhyming poem. It's message is inspirational for sure! It's true, happiness and joy are often rejected, as if it's a mistake. Great finishing last 2 lines. Thanks for sharing this with me. Nora's smile is so similar to Sawyer's... perhaps it's because they're exposed to the same kind of love and joy!!

Such a beautiful poem, Brooke, going perfectly with that wonderful photo. Nora certainly looks as if she is full of joy and happiness. Your daughter has a lot to be proud of, she certainly fills Sawyer and Nora with so much love and tenderness. xsx Sandra
