Wise words as always, dear Brooke.
So true that we tend to mistrust the joy of life, as though it's a trap. Cynicism of modern life? Or do we feel ourselves unworthy.
Do you know that beautiful poem by George Herbert, "Love"? It treats with the unworthiness aspect.
A most enjoyable rispetto enhanced by the lovely picture of Nora. Is she running toward your daughter?
A query: In the first line are you using a one syllable pronunciation of "toward"? Or have I got my iambs in a twist?

Thank you, Julia - yes tward, rhymes with ward or sword :-)
I have not asked Miranda the circumstances of this picture, so I don't know what Nora is running toward, but it very well could be Miranda. The two of them love each other utterly and completely, and Nora and Sawyer love each other too :-) She calls herself his big sister and tells anyone who will listen that he's her little brother. LOL :-) Brooke

Well, both Nora and Sawyer are gorgeous. Family ties aren't always the same as blood relatives.
-
You have that right. I've never known two siblings who love each other more than these two do. They are the perfect pair. And I know Miranda would lay down her life for either of them.

What a great poem! If only love was what we see. Run towards it - not from it. And thumbs up to Miranda for taking in the child - it's such a special act of kindness. Great job to both of you!

Thank you so much, ILovePoetry :-) You are most generous. Miranda did not take Nora in - Miranda is her nanny :-) Brooke

Oh! sorry - misunderstood ;) either way, it's nice to have a good relationship!

Brooke, It's a lovely little picture of Nora. She's happy to be a free spirit and allowed to run. When you stop to think about it, we all run from something, whether carefree, fancy free or frightened free. Very nice and I enjoyed the read. Love ya, Carole

Beautiful, Brooke! The photo is priceless. I think Nora is a lucky little girl to have become the object of such love and appreciation from Miranda and her family. It's as if she gets a double portion of love and a child can't get too much of that! Learning to accept love and return it is the basis for a happy life, I think. This is such a 'feel good' poem, and I can never read too many of those. Thanks, Brooke. Loved it!

Adrienne, thank you so much :-) Miranda and Nora are both lucky to have found each other. I feel so sad for those employers who have nanny cams set up to make sure their nannies aren't abusive or neglectful. Nora's parents know that when their precious child is with Miranda, she is with someone who totally loves and cares for her. Brooke

It shows in the picture! Nora's a happy girl. I hope they always remain in each other's lives.

Such a soft and lovely poem that is so soothing to the soul to read. I certainly want to run toward it when offered, but, I believe that sometimes people just don't believe (for unknown reasons) that they deserve it. I have felt that way a time or two in my day.(sigh) A real soother. Tony

Nice photo. Good theme. Fine form.
To run toward joy and its embrace
seems such an easy choice to make,
yet just how often do we race
away, as if it's a mistake?
Good question and well voiced with fine rhymes and bouncy beat.
Why act as if a tender touch
has snatched us in its grasping clutch?
interesting slant rhyme--most inventive! fine alliteration of T and consonance of S and C and T too.
I pray when love is offered me,
the joy of it is all I see.
Yes--good prayer and great closing. Ditto!
Love,
rd

What a bubbly little girl, so pretty.
And the love of a child is so pure, as we, who are parents, know so well. God's greatest gift.

Good zestful poem, identifying the gift of joy which we so often loose after childhood. Perhaps we run way because we have learned from past experience when to be cautious. A note of caution comes with wisdom. How would it read if in the 2nd line you removed-- Too make. don
