A great contest entry. The poem flowed and connected well. The author's words are creative and descriptive.
The artwork is perfect and compliments this poem.

    Thanks, Brooke.

I read this to a class the other day (Special Needs kids) and then asked them to recall all the people and animals mentioned - we had a lot of fun!

Haven't read all yet, but this is by far the best poem in this contest that I've read. The rhythm & rhyme are well done to propel the reader along. The imagination is over the moon with the list of oddballs in this parade. Finally, some interesting alliteration along the way, plus the fun ending, make this a great read for kids or adults. Thanks for sharing & good luck in the contest.

Excellent work! This is just the type of poem I would have loved as a child(and perhaps even now). The flow is brilliant, it really brings you down the row of pageantry, with such wonderful imagery that the faces of each person is painted quite clearly. The rhyme is good, and I often caught myself smiling as I read. The ending was a fun little twist which children would love. You reeled me in quite expertly with the picture from Sleeping Beauty, and I am glad you did. Great work! :)

    Thank you, Lady O

It was fun to write and seems fun to read as well and sneaked a win in the contest despite not being a really motivational poem.

I hope you're planning on trying to get this published. It's a delightful read, even for a young-at-heart adult. (Yep, that's me!) LOL Best wishes with your wonderful entry.

I read the author notes and thought "What a wonderful idea!" I think you should do it. Really. This is a charming poem and fun to read because it has so much description and alliteration and bouncy rhythm as well as a delightful ending. I'm sure children would love a picture book with these words. Best wishes in your contest too.

    Thank you.

One of my goals for this year - to get something published in the traditional way - I do have a very clear picture of what this one would look like, but there are several other possibilities too - of course I have no idea how to find a publisher, so there's a bit of work to do.

If I were you, I'd start with a new copy of Writer's Market. Look in the section that lists publishers of children's books and send query letters to those. For your wonderful adult poetry, same source, different section. You will see how to do it if you get that book. I have had several poems and one article published this way. Go for the money! It is doubly rewarding. I know you can do it.

Thanks for the tip - I have just reserved a copy at our local library - do you know if it list international publishers, or is it mainly American ones? Not that it matters that much in this day and age.

I really will get this done soon!

I believe it is all the English language publishers, at least all who request a listing in this book. They send letters to all publishers each year and publish the listings of all who respond. They also show which ones pay and how much. It is worth buying your own copy, but good to check out the library's copy first. I like to mark mine, tag certain pages, etc. it is a great motivation just to read it. Be sure to tell me of your success! Best of luck. Adonna

This was a spectacular poem for kids, for a lot of reasons. First, the bouncy rhythm and excellent rhyming would hold their attention with ease. Also, you introduce words they may never have heard before, and would get them to ask questions about just what, exactly, those words meant. Learning new words. The third important aspect is the interactive nature, including them in the story.

Yes, you've got the winner here in my book!
