clever, and I've just learned how many letters the alphabet has. This 'Whitney' is musical, has a great little rhythm. First time I noticed it in one of these scant forms. Kenny

I liked the last lines...
What we have
is all we need --
an extra would be absurd.

I never thought of it like that, but I'm sure children learning the alphabet, sounds, coupling of letters etc, feel overwhelmed with the 26 we have.

A fun reading... John

I like this poem about the alphabet, and how 26 letters is all we need. The pic of Sawyer sitting among all the letters brings home the meaning of your cute poem.

Well done. Mary

Clearly this young fellow is destined to become a man of letters. It is amazing what diversity we can achieve with these 26 letters of the alphabet. I wonder how much additional verbosity might be generated by the addition of a 27th! A well-worded whimsical whitney!

An adorable Whitney poem for the alphabet, Brooke. It's always been a wonder to me that just 26 letters result in a dictionary full of words.

It is amazing to think of the vast vocabulary we have given just a combination of twenty six letters. I had not thought of this before.
Whimsical indeed Brooke. Lovely pic and thoughtful poem.

kind regards
tracey:)

This poem is delightful
In Restoration times this would be classified as a conceit ( different shade of meaning than today). It must be jolly handy have such a sweet grandson to inspire you.
Last time I spoke to you I was struggling in the throes of a new cancer treatment. Yesterday my oncologist told me that it had been successful and the tumour had been destroyed

Yes, twenty six letters seem right to us, but other languages have more. Even languages using the same letters as us have a few extra. Spanish and German come to mind. The hardest ones must be Chinese and Japanese. They have thousands of characters to learn.

Tomes, thank you so much :-) Yeah, I'm not nearly smart enough to learn Chinese and Japanese. How little kids in those places do it is beyond me. Brooke

I don't know how they do it either.

Amazing to think of all the things that can be expressed with just those twenty-six letter!

As you note, this is a lovely piece of whimsy - I liked 'too many are hard to herd' - probably why it's extra difficult to learn languages like Japanese!

Cute write about the alphabet letters. Like the - hard to herd - reads well.Sawyer looks proud as punch sitting on his colourful box in his new play room. Simply a nice whitney, Brooke.
