I thought I'd read this before responding to your review.

It doesn't surprise me that a doctor could respond in that way, but you should consider whether he is a GOOD doctor before making a change.

You couldn't care less whether he is a GOOD fisherman or makes his own lures. You employ (yes, I know that's a foreign concept, but in actual fact, you pay him--one way or another)the doctor to repair, maintain and monitor your condition.

The doctor may be stupid when it comes to treating the whole person, but he may still be a good doctor. Think carefully.

Thank you for reading. He really was a bad doctor. Since I wrote this, I have found a new doctor who is both competent and caring which is hard to find around here. She enjoyed talking to me about my writing. Have a blessed day~Debbie

Hi Debbie

My son just said to me ... can you DO something instead of sitting all day on FS. LOL ....hehas no idea ....... writing is hard work .... I explain to him it is no different than his university essays and assignments. He has a terrible allergy at the moment ... covered in spots and extremely irritable. Mostly they enjoy that I have found something I love to do.

I find most of the writers who actually read the works they review take enjoyment in other's writing. At least that is what I mostly find. If they have any suggestions many take the time to point out a typo or a grammar mistake ... I've even had some writers do the entire write in the beginning which has made my writing 'tighter' and considerably better.
I do agree, many think what I do is nothing, that a phrase just pops out and that's it. Some pieces take a lot of research and consideration.

Of course we all have work we prefer to read and is to our own taste, I don't limit myself and read as much as I can manage. I would never give four stars just because I didn't like the form. I comment on the technique and writing style.

My doctor has a copy of my book and loves that I write for such pleasure and enjoyment ... he says it is so good for me in my circumstances especially at the moment..... he's a keeper. I do understand that not everyone is into poetry, though reading is a popular activity ... don't they realise that somebody has to spend a great deal of time writing what they read? I hope you find a good literary doctor ... probably has more compassion and emotion and might actually provide good patient service.

You raise some interesting points here. I only feel dismissed if my work is given a brief over view just for the points and show in their review they haven't read it at all with any real intent.

Great issue to raise. Hugs - Lovi xoxox

I completely agree with you, Debbie, non writers are rude and as I have found, they believe I'm just passing time with my scribbling. Even family members are ignorant to the creativity of a writer's mind to the point of saying, "Oh, that's nice. Keeps you amused!" They never take time to read the words.

I congratulate you, Debbie for speaking out,

Hugs,

Liandra

LOL..All I can say, Debbie, is I know what you mean. Good thing you are changing doctors, too. I have a couple of sweatshirts that have writing on them that say "Be Careful...you may end up in my novel." That's usually good for a conversation starter and laughs. Most people I tell I write are somewhat amazed and interested. First thing out of their mouths is usually "What do you write or what did you write or are you published yet? LOL. Take care, my friend. All will be okay. Bob

Yes. I definitely agree with your take on the attitude on non-writers. And I'll also venture that they are also non-readers to the core, which adds to the problem. :)

It's interesting to get another person's perspective on this. My experiences with fellow writers has been similar to yours, but I've received much less attitude from non-writers. In all likelihood it's because I'm still in college so people who might otherwise disapprove think it's just a phase or that I'll "grow up and grow out of it".

I appreciate the thought you put into this because I've found it more common for writers to think about how non-writers will perceive their work and less about how non-writers will perceive them.

Debbie, I am appalled at this educated man's arrogant attitude (and grinning 'cause you're looking for a new doctor)! One would think he would know better - what books did he study to become a doctor, for God's sake? Now THEY are not "creative" writing either, but obviously valuable. Such ignorance!

One tiny edit - "Just because you can..." << this sentence is missing the word "is" before "creativity". BUT I might I might suggest you enlarge on that hugely important fact -for example - "Just because you can physically put words on paper or type an email on a keyboard doesn't mean you are able to teach, inspire, entertain, (etc- your own words to describe here, Deb) with your writing - THAT is a writer! The other is called literacy. They are worlds apart."

I guess you can tell by my response this time how much this short article impressed me with its importance. Brilliant, my friend.

Well done.

Just because you can physically put words on a page with ink, or keyboard an email means literacy, not creativity which true writing.>>>word left out of that sentence, probably "is".

Maybe the doctor just wanted you to find something that makes you move around more. I know about disabilities. I was diagnosed with Parkinsons, which (thankfully) turned out to be wrong. What I had was normal pressure hydrocephalus, but I still have balance issues and must use a walker. Good writing. I, too, spend hours doing the same.

Hi Debbie,
OK, a brief opinion it will be... my question to your new doctor would have been, did he choose his profession or did it choose him... this would be the same for a writer/poet if his answer was "I have to do it, this makes me complete" then I think of it like this... I have a few tattoos and sometimes I see people look at them like I have offended them personally or something... the difference between a person that has tattoos and one that doesn't? The person with the tattoos doesn't care if the person without them has them or not.

By the way, I love your passion and your craft... but then again I am family.

With our thoughts we create,
the magic of words,
James xx
