Good haiku with a clear and touching message Carolyn. We need to preserve our history and landmarks, not destroy them or let them be bewildered. Their value is indeed never ending.

Well done! Good luck in the contest.

Kind regards

Sarah

this is very well written, carolyn, you did an excellent job writing this haiku poem about the way our society doesn't believe in preserving things, but remember our souls will be preserved to glorify Him. good luck in the contest

I do indeed enjoy this piece of writing from the author. This is so very true. We need to preserve these old buildings. Here in the United Kingdom they are fairly good at this and they are serious about preserving the heritage of the nation. My own country, Ireland is not so good at it.

Hi Carolyn,

I read the poem to my son and he wanted to respond to it. He says that historical landmarks are being abused like you say in your poem. They are put asunder for modern progress. It's because no one seems to understand the history we have in the US. I agree that our history should not be wiped out. Thank you for your dedication towards our history. I really your poem

Kat (Rich is my son's name)

Carolyn, this is such a beautiful poem and I love the photo. We come to lack respect for the past, older people and most of all our selves. If money is involved many think the past, must step aside for progress. So sad.

Best of luck in the contest.

Carolyn, this Haiku Poetry Contest entry fulfills most of the requirements of a Haiku in its perfect syllable and line count. I do wonder about using the last line of the write for the title instead of the first line as is traditionally the case. I assume this is true for this contest. Content-wise it does talk about the human condition with and Ahh moment in the last line. Well done. All the best in the contest! :0 GracieAnn

Thanks GracieAnn for pointing out the Haiku form flaw. (For emphasis sake, I can't change the last line. and I don't know if I would be allowed to change the title. I am in a catch 22,LOL been there before) I am glad you enjoyed it anyway. :-) Carolyn

Disposable society-- that's a good term for the new generation. Great examples in your author's notes. Assonance with disposable society. Good luck in the contest.

Hi, Carolyn.
Great picture of the Mission Wall. So sad that many of these beautiful historical buildings are being torn down, rather than preserved. New doesn't always mean better. You showed this through words so well in your poem.
Bye
