There can't be anything to say about your great poem after so many reviews, so I'll just add that apart from the clever idea, the excellent verse, and the wisdom of a mother exposed, I laughed out loud at:The moral of this story --
no matter what you do,
you'll never win a fight of wills
if your opponent's two.

Yes, there are those terrible two's when defiance seems to rule among many toddlers. This is such a cute poem, Brooke, that addresses that very subject quite well. I love that last stanza--reminds me of when my daughter was two, and we knew already that she was quite strong willed. She still is! Thanks for sharing.

Kids will be kids and all kids do this at some point or another. I don't know what my mom did when we were two but when we got older she always told us that she made what she did and we could eat it or find something else but we had to make it or warm it up or whatever. We weren't allowed to eat crap but after a certain age my mom figured we could take care of ourselves if we didn't like what she had. It was kind of nice since we all liked different thing

Yeah, one can reason with an older child. At 22 months all they know is what they do and do not like the taste of :-) Thanks so much, ExperiencingLiphe :-) Brooke

This was a humorously written poem. We have some strong will children in our family as well. LOL. The poem reads well, and the picture goes well with this poem. Nice job.

This reminds me of quite a few of my family's and friends cantankerous two year olds. I found your poem funny and direct and even a little bit nostalgic. Also your skill showed through in your form and flow of this work. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, what fun this one is, Brooke.

You have so whimsically described the reality of living with a two year-old.

Yesterday a father brought his toddler into Starbucks and tried to get him to eat the breakfast sandwich that the child had requested.

The dad did not succeed .... Being a young and easily embarrassed father, he tried to pretend that he, not the two year old was running the show.
The moms in the store got a giggle out of that.

Great work.

Hugs,d

LOL - yeah, no mom is going to buy that one :-) Thanks so much, Diane. Sawyer is the most cooperative kid about so many things - neither of my kids was half as good about going to bed, but he is not cooperating with eating decent food at all right now. Brooke :-)

I rarely like humorous poems and usually get tired of the typical rhymes and rhythm in traditionally structured poetry, but this was great! None of the rhymes felt forced, every line had perfect rhythm, and it seemed like an easy story instead of a poem written for English class during lunch. It was very impressive how funny you actually made it, and I salute your ability to write humor into a form many people regard as boring.

LOL...So cute, Brooke. "terrible twos" as they call them can be a pain, but still full of fun, I think. Is Sawyer 2 already? How time flys when you are having grandchildren, eh? Bob

Very cute, Brooke! Reason is best left out of the mix when dealing with young children. As usual, a fun and easy read that flows from word to word and line to line effortlessly. Great job! Craig.

Craig, thank you :-) Yeah, at 22 months it is quite difficult to reason with a child about healthful eating. LOL :-) Brooke

Oh, this is so true! I have one like that - he's 42, and hasn't changed a whole lot :) Beautiful rhyme and it just flowed for me. Loved the title, too. Great job, y friend :)

Minglement, thank you so very much :-) Sawyer has an Uncle Eric, who is 34, and he hasn't changed much either. I appreciate your generous sixth star :-) Brooke
