Writer of the Month!! Congratulations! I like this, too, I wonder if it's my Fall birthday that makes it my favorite. Of course, it'd be fair to say I spent a fair time, in youth, falling...

All Time Best, I can sure see why. Leaves do tease and scamper this pretty damn good, the more I ponder it, the more I like it. Thanks, :) Carrie

    Thanks, Carrie.

Glad you enjoyed this mischievous little piece.

Haiku are not really my strong point - I do better with rhyme and meter, but I like to have a go at these from time to time.

Very well written haiku. Made me laugh because always there are leaves that get away from one when raking...like they're mocking or teasing as you so eloquently put it. Perfect image.

A match, burning leaves, and the house too. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a smooth flow of words. Good job.

Oh those playful leaves running away from the rake. There are so fun to watch as they scamper away, but not so much fun to pile up. Great imagery in your verse.
I especially like "teasing leaves." Looks like the contest is closed and a decision expected soon. Best of luck.

Thank you for the kind words we are surrounded by poplar trees here - there's only a trickle falling at the moment, but soon o become a torrent!

Hi,

This is a good haiku with the concept of autumn leaves blowing hither thither. All the best in the contest and thanks for sharing this.

excellent pairing of photo and poem, which is in excellent 5/7/5 syllable count
While personification is not encouraged in traditional haiku, I personally love it :-)
scamper is the perfect verb choice to describe the movement and to create a playful tone
great assonance in flailing rake
and a delightful satori line
Brooke :-)

You are right, I don't like being bound by the traditional rule-book, so I write what 'feels' good.

They may be teasing but we don't always see the funny side! It's a never-ending job... raking leaves in autumn; and I think we are going to get an early autumn this year, so your haiku is most appropriate, Steve. Good luck, Giddy

As well as our own trees, we are surrounded by huge poplars so it's a matter of sit back and enjoy - the rake is rarely used. The goat, however, does make an excellent mulcher - trouble is she will mulch any plant in sight as well!
