The poem is so stark and harsh , I know it's like this , but your poem catches the reality so keenly , it's really well done , it did disturb after I read though , but thank you

Those poor last two dogs :(

Great work, it is well written and well rhymed. I'm not a poet, but I was wondering: is the second line is supposed to rhyme with any of the others? I couldn't find any.

Love the picture; keep up the good work

Thanks for the kind review of my work. In this type of poem none of the lines have to rhyme at all... I just happened to make those few rhyme for affect. This format was all based on syllable count for each line ... 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. Thanks again

I like the affect the rhyming lines made :)

Nine dogs stand behind HIGH metal gate
Eight now left as one's adopted
Seven dread THEIR PENDING fate
Six QUIVER AS THEY wait
Five STAND STILL AND PRAY
Four PUSHED AWAY
Three REMAIN
Two will
Die.

A very powerful message. Suggestions only. No disrespect intended.

REGARDS:

I will do. I work with animals..have to go meet with a family and assist as their Great Dane crosses the "Rainbow Bridge" .. sad day--I should be filled with emotions.. a writing day indeed. Thanks for the invite.

This piece meets the criteria of the Nonet poem as the syllable count descends from nine syllable to one. Good end rhyming. Good perfect rhyming with gate/fate. Good complimentary photo followed by a sad message.

O-h-h so sad to see our beloved canines left to this fate and forgotten when they give us humans so much love and loyalty and happiness

Sensitive piece. Good for ad for pet adoption.
Well written, good form.
I get my dogs from people too lazy to go to the pound. They just drop them off to die but I feed them.
Bones is the resident now. Good dog runs like a deer. That's how he learned to run watching deer.

this is very well written, Judith, you did an excellent job writing this nonet that counts down the dogs until the final breath of the last two. I wish you the best of luck in the contest.

This is a great poem to remind us that dogs in shelters are euthanized every day. I have always picked my pets from shelters but even when many of us do, there are never enough homes. Using numbers and the decreasing lines do a great job of making the point.

Sad, indeed. Considering that many of these dogs are abandoned. It just breaks my heart. Very clever in your numbering their fate. Well done! Les
