This is a great contest entry. The message is spot on when talking to children with anger in your heart. Those hurtful words can destroy a child's mindset. No matter what the age is, once that bond of trust is broken, it is difficult to regain. Children understands more than we give them credit for. I wish you good luck,,,,,,Jim

What a compelling thought and picture. We were all taught the adage that sticks and stones could break our bones but words would never hurt you. Think we all know that this is not true and your poem expresses this in just 17 syllables.

That was very well written. In fact, it was amazing; very straight forward and it hits home. This is the first time I've actually read a poem that's been able to consume me in such few words. I love children and I absolutely despise anyone who'd use psychological abuse against them. Thank you so much for writing about something that's so difficult to prove in front of the law yet so easy to ignore.

Great work!

This was a well written poem. Your 5-7-5 syllable count is in good order. We do need to careful of what we say to children. Very nice poem.

Hard to know what really impacts a child, as one must be aware that we're setting an influence that will last a lifetime. Thanks for sharing. Les

A cut can heal, scab over but words cut so deep they rip our souls and bleed deep into our hearts, spill over into our memories. Your picture shows the tears of a child feeling the pain. Sad but so true. Terrie

It is true that a child can be forever ruined by judgements and words of anger. Even when we're disappointed in their behaviour, we must find a way to let them know a change is needed, without making them feel isolated or hated.

Great write.
Rose.

Words can be like weapons or healing balms, and we never know which words will last forever in someone's mind and heart. Your verse is wise counsel to help us remember how vital our choice of words is.

This is a very strong emotional write, mystery writer, but I thought, maybe wrongly, this was a 'fun' contest.

It's so true how a reprimand or nasty comment can stay with a child for life - I know as I had a mentally abusive step-father, though he turned out OK after the damage was done.

Good luck, Ted
