Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This gave me chills....I teach little ones and I see this happening ...as people discuss an unruly child. I hug him and whisper how proud I am of something good he did today. I was that child , embarrassed by the words my mother said. Guess what stupid thing Jenny did today.
God bless you and thank you for the warning

five judgmental words
or seven hurled in anger
child lot forever
The photo compliments the piece well. The syllable count is correct. Clear message that is short, simple and saddens my heart.

I have to admit. . .I spent a long time pondering this.
Which 5 words? (so many choices including phrases with stupid, never, useless and regret)
Which 7 words? (so many more choice including phrases with stupid, never, useless, and pay for)

Very thought provoking

Not sure the background for this poem but no child should have to experience this. I wish we could all just give our children what they need: love, encouragement, hugs and kisses. They don't need to be burdened with adult stuff. They shouldn't hear us argue all the time. They shouldn't witness the things kids witness nowadays. Sometimes I think we need to just go back the days when things were simpler.

The poem is revealing something like a scolding to the boy which the boy understood very well. The picture portrays
a kind of resentment that brought down his tears. Perhaps he was told to behave properly or he will be disciplined again and again, forever.

I love the picture. I love the poem. A child will be hurt by words spoken in anger. Adults are hurt too but they know how to work through the hurt and not blame themselves. Great work. Good luck with the contest.

I know words can hurt deeply and cause lots of problems in kids lives. Hopefully it isn't forever though. Forgiveness has a way of healing.

Clever to put 5 & 7 words in your poem where the 5 & 7 syllable count should be.

Blessings, LaVonne

Yes, what comes out of our mouths can be just as painful as a slap across the face, or even worse, depending upon what it is. The pen is truly mightier than the sword, and we must squelch our anger when addressing children--or anyone else for that matter...

"Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names can never harm me" Well, it's a good theory, but it doesn't always work.

Good luck to you in the contest.

This is a such a true message. Great little 5-7-5 for the prompt with the perfect syllable count. Good luck to you.
