Hello Brooke. I hope I find you well. I just popped in after many months and I'm only reviewing a few poets. Of course, I couldn't go past your Whitney with gorgeous little Sawyer being your inspiration. I don't know where you find your wisdom but find it, you do as in "talent is unlimited when instinct is the teacher". This sentence encapsulates the mind of the child. If only growing up didn't stomp some of this out as experience forces us to view the world from a more empirical standpoint rather than an instinctual one but time had not diminished your "artistry" with words. I thoroughly enjoyed your Whitney and I always learn something from you Brooke regardless of the form you use for your presentation. xx Carol

Thank you so very much, Carol - it is always great to hear from you :-) I so agree with you. As time goes on we identify only a precious few children as artistic as we judge all the others as so so. Brooke

Well, it may have something to do with his DNA and a talented Grandma! Is that Valentine headed your way?? A very prophetic Whitney!

twinkles, thanks so much :-) This was one of his first times painting - I think right now we're all thrilled with any paint he manages to transfer onto the paper. LOL :-) Brooke

Hi Brooke, this is a great poem about parenthood and also human potential. I don't think I've come across a Whitney poem before but like all your work it is very thought-provoking. Best wishes, Pete :)

lovely use of the form, Brooke - the rhyming on lines 4 and 8 sound natural and unforced. And I, of course, LOVE your little homily/moral. If only 'teachers' wouldn't 'teach' art! (personal experience speaking here too!)

Sharyn, thank you so much :-) I have seen so many children start out as natural artists and by age ten they will tell you - I can't paint, I can't draw, because of what they've been told by teachers.

Looks as if you have a little Picasso in the making. Whether his artwork is eventually hung in a museum, I know it will be proudly displayed in your home.

Hi, would've loved to have awarded this six stars, but I've none left. This is beautifully written and so deep. It says how the power to create is inherent in us all. We just need to go with the flow. Love this. Good luck with all your work. Big hugs from nannabot. xxx

This is so sweet and so true...we are our own teachers, learning from error and beauty, by love and regret...everything we do paints a picture of our life...good work, great picture also

It's so lovely to watch a child creating, whether it is a piece of art, or imaginative play, or the like. Children are so unencumbered by thoughts of self-doubt and fear of what others will think. It's natural for them to create. This is a wonderful topic for your poem, which is very well written. Great picture too!

This is very good, they are so serious when they are painting. Talking about pictures, I still have one I did in junior high and I am 71 years old.
I am sure you find a lot to write about. Good luck.

Yes, I guess it does indeed, when you think about it. Nature is instinctively creative. I love how you have expressed it here, Brooke, using little Sawyer as the artist! He's a picture all by himself, that one!
I enjoyed this wonderful execution of a little bit of wisdom.
