Yep, nothing is more disheartening than to take a stroll along a public beach and observe cans, tires and other man-made debris washed upon the shoreline. Or, to take a walk in the woods and see piles of trash and litter strewn around.

This earth is the only home we've got, and we should all show her the respect she so richly deserves...

Well stated, and good luck in the contest.

A very nice poem indeed. So much truth in so few words is quite a marvel. I would think there are very few people who cannot relate to your work here. Thank you and best wishes.

There are slobs everywhere. Those who have no regard for anything. Sometimes bears do this when hungry. Nevertheless, it's an eyesore, bringing to mind an important topic.

Hi Mystery Poet,
People are pigs. There's no doubt about it. At least that's true when they're out and about. Hopefully they look after their house better. Indians had the right idea. They treated the earth like it was alive. They took only what they needed. I always remember Chief Dan George's speech in the 1970 movie, "Little Big Man",

Another thing I'll tell you... many years ago, I was hunting one day and came across a pile of garbage in the woods. Someone had created their own dump. As we looked around the perimeter, we found an old family graveyard... the forest had grown up around the crudely carved stones. We noticed there was a border of stones. But now, this bit of pollution had sidled up just a few feet away. How terrible to have such a neighbour.
The picture you chose compliments your senryu entry very well. And the message rings through... we are slobs who care little about Mother Earth.
Good Luck in the contest!
cheers
Kimbob

Indeed, mystery writer.

'Fly-tipping' is a blight on the countryside and, even when rarely caught, the culprits get away with small fines and a slap on the wrist.

Very cleverly put.

Good luck, Ted

Right you are. Your poem captures the sarcasm we like in this format I think the garbage can was invented by a lunch lady in my old high school, so students would have a place to immediately deposit their 'food'.

Ha ha, that is funny, sounds like the lunch lady thought the food might not be to good herself. Thank you Bill for this great review. :-)

This was a well written senryu poem. The poem reads well. Your 5-7-5 syllable count is in good order. The picture accentuates the poem well. Nicely written.
