Hello adewpearl, Brooke, This poem is so sweet - great rhyming within. I couldn't help but to laugh as I read your poem. Between Sawyer's face and the following:

I say the thief is clever,
he got awayad scot free.
The only thing I know for sure --
the culprit isn't me.

(I couldn't help but reflect on something that Bart Simpson use to say ~ paraphrasing ... I didn't do it, you didn't see me do it, and you can't prove that I did it - lol. My younger son use to love to recite that little skit and plead it on a regular basis - lol ... he had much to plea, too.)

A fun poem. Keep the blue water flowing. LateBloomer

LateBloomer, thank you so very much for your great humor and thoughtful review. Miranda, Sawyer's mom, was a master at denial, so I'm looking forward to her being on the receiving end of some outrageous lies :-) Brooke

I'm sure Miranda will be prepared for those little white lies. Little boys are quite interesting and your grandson is getting to be such a big boy. Smiles, LateBloomer

After a decade of being a nanny, Miranda has, I'm sure, heard every lie possible. LOL

Hi Brooke

Well who would suspect that innocent face?? :))) Obviously the dog ate it and then licked some of it back to lay a red herring. lol

Absolutely one of my favourite images so far. Sawyer is so adorable, I"m sure a cupcake wouldn't mind being swiped by such a wee burglar. Either way, I can't imagine any conviction will hold up.:)) Your imagination and creativity is endless.

Denial to the end .... hahhaah! A lovely set of quatrains with perfect rhyme and meter and such a wonderful sense of fun. One lucky grandchild to have such love and laughter in his life. Tell Miranda ... a stunning photograph.

Huge hugs to you and all the family. Sound like you've been having some freezing weather. Keep warm and safe. Lovinia xoxoxo

Lovinia, Sawyer knew he could count on you to help the defense ;-) Thanks so very much. His mom was the world's champ of denial when she was a little one, so now it's her turn to be told some whoppers LOL I so appreciate your generous sixth star, and yes, our weather has been enough to drive anyone to consider stowing away to Tahiti. :-) Brooke

The picture may have inspired it, but his is exactly how a child's mind works. In truth, some continue to work just like that their entire lives, not that ummm I would know anything about that...... Great piece. Perfect. Did he get away with it? Not that I would try it, but..... mikey

Thanks so much, mikey - in reality Sawyer is only 21 months old, too little to have learned to lie yet, but his mother used to be a champion liar/denier, so I look forward to the whoppers he will tell in the coming years :-) Brooke

LMAO - Any they say "Children are so innocent. . .they always tell the truth"!

I believe you have hit the nail on the head - children are just like grown-ups;
when it serves their interest (or saves them from repercussions) - they lie just as well as us!

Too cute :-)

Leineco, whoever thinks children always tell the truth obviously never raised a child. LOL Sawyer's mother was the best damned liar/denier who ever lived. :-) Thanks so much for your review. Brooke

You had me laughing here! That picture is priceless! Oh,my! You have caught the thinking of a child's mind here. They just can't fathom why we think they had their fingers in the frosting, ha ha.
Thanks for the smiles, Anita

That was cute! So light hearted a ditty, I can't help but laugh. Being constantly surrounded by young children, I have a good idea of what this looks like. xD Good job. (:

It's the old 'who stole the cookie from the cookie-jar?' game.

Very cute poem - this time it does rather depend on having the accompanying photo to get the full impact.

I say whoever left those cupcakes within easy reach may really be the one most responsible - unless it was a doting grandmother of course!

thanks so much, Steve - in reality his mommy gave him the cupcake, but I'm sure his days of sneaking treats and lying about it are coming :-) Brooke

I love the way you formatted you poem Brooke,
especially when Sawyer looks so guilty and still claims he's not the one who stole the cupcake

I'm in Sawyer's corner. But boy he sure looks guilty. Ha ha. This was another upbeat slice of life penned in perfect rhyme and meter.

Dallas, thank you so much :-) I refuse to believe Sawyer will ever be guilty of anything! LOL Brooke

Don't think that would be considered a crime but rather an unfair temptation.

I have to wonder if you wrote this poem before or after that wonderful picture! You captured a perfect moment. The poem and the story it tells, are marvelous. I loved it from start to finish.
