Oh, so lovely. I didn't see any typos. And the rhyming scheme is interesting. I shall have to read Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn sometimes!

Gorgeous - gorgeous - gorgeous!

Sincerely, a well deserved win! Ode form in it's finery.

I, personally, loved the last four lines of stanza 1
Untiring servant of your queen, the moon,
Most constant of inconstants. Faith imbued
With boundless beauty makes the poet swoon
And artist seek to capture you in vain.

but the whole of it is so beautifully woven
and sings amazing praise to the sea.

I wish I had a six left - as this clearly deserves it! The best I can do is a five . . .
and this

Lorraine, thanks again for the great review and the virtual six.

I did feel the ode deserved formality and grandeur and lofty language, so I hit it for all it was worth!

Geez - I wish I had a six for this. Or a ten. It is absolutely phenomenal and was a joy to read. It is perhaps the best poem I have read from an undead poet in a long, long time.
Loved this. No wonder that you won with it. Congratulations.
Rose.

    Thanks, Rose.

I am planning to be undead for some time yet - perhaps I'll do one of those zombie poems next.

This is truly a powerful poem, and a most worthy winner in the Ode contest.
There is so much to admire in these poetic lines. I admire the unusual rhyme pattern and the strong meter, and I love the many descriptive phrases that match the ocean's varied moods. I especially loved, "a vast and gentle breathing, deep and slow..." WOW! How beautiful and how perfectly like the ocean! You are a gifted writer. This is a spectacular poem.
Congratulations on the blue ribbon. It was a proper choice.

Thank you so much, MM Glad you enjoyed my ode - I really feel these pieces should be a little over the top in terms of language and sentiment - think I got there!

First of all, Steve, CONGRATULATIONS! Well deserved win, my friend. I love poems that actually cause emotions while reading, and you have superbly done that here. This is probably the first ode I've really enjoyed reading; understanding every word and line. Most odes talk way above the readers head, and don't make a bit of sense. LOL. You put a lot of feeling into this. Fabulous! Again, congrats!! Loved every word!! :)MW

MW, thank you so much for the great review and the six stars.

Several people have commented that this aroused their feelings - and I am happy that you understood it, despite the lofty language in places - I hate being bamboozled by a poem too.

I don't actually have the time to comment on the superb imagery in every line and stanza of this lovely ode.
The tone is elevated, appropriate to the form, and the stanzas have a variety of mood and emotion - excellent.
The whole of the last stanza speaks to me and moves me, particularly the line "Connects us to those soulful inner tunes...".
This is a true ode, original and beautiful. I hope the panel recognise such a worthy piece. Regards, Andrea

This an excellent ode to the sea and
perfect for the contest.
We owe so much to the sea, it gives
food for two thirds of the world, any
would die of hunger if it wasn't for the sea.
I enjoyed reading your poem. I wish you good
luck in the contest.

    Thanks, Bryana.

Yes I tried hard to come up with a subject that was 'noble' enough for a serious ode.

Oh, kiwi Steve, you've gotta know! This ode
To Mother Earth's watery womb creates
Images, and paints pictures to behold.
Hark, your ode, like Shakespeare and Keats be mates.
Obviously, I cannot write an ode, but you have mastered it. Exceptional, but you know....you just are wired to write poetry. I have only one six left ,but this deserves 10 which you probably already have.

Excellent ode to the sea that gave us life, dances with the moon, hides mystery and when enraged, would dash us against the rocks. You have effectively caught all aspects of the sea.
