Surely, there is no substitute for love.
Excellent rhyming in these quatrains.
The flow is fine as usual.

There seems to be an antidote
for all that makes me blue,
but nothing is a substitute
when I'm apart from you.

These lines are lovely. I enjoyed reading this

Your poem pulled my heart strings, what a great poem. It flowed well, had impecable rhyme, and the picture perfect. The theme is universal not only for lovers.

Hi Brooke,
A lovely playful poem with a charming ending line.
From your list, I'm not sure if it was my daughter or me who had the most fun!

I love how you can substitute one thing for another and find pleasure in it like the fires embers. How innocent childhood can be so pure and enjoyable. God Bless Terrie

Excellent photo of your grandson again. You write about him and his wishes with bad weather, but where he is I thought the weather is always nice.

Ine, thank you so much, my friend :-) Yes, he is where the weather is nice, but my poems are only inspired by his photos - they are not meant to be biographies of his life. :-) Brooke

So simple yet such a beautiful message wrapped in rhyme and poetical expression. Enjoyable to read. As Sawyer grows he will certain;y see the world through the magical eyes of Grandma. Smile, Robin :)

Very Inspirational and thoughtful poem. It tells that we may have substitutes for almost everything but not for the one whom we love the most.
Nice rhymes and no other picture would suit this poem.
Thanks for Sharing

What a great conceit, Brooke, and beautifully carried out. I love that each thing listed has a substitute except for your love. I really enjoyed this one, and it was wrought with an obviously heartfelt intent.

Forgive me for crying, Brooke. This lovely poem touches me. I like the way the accepting personality takes alternate pleasure when disappointments arise, but acknowledges the one thing that has not substitute. Beautiful. :) nancy
