A nice set of rhyming quatrains giving the alternative of some of the simple pleasures of life. Great photo of Sawyer and the flowing grains of sand. Nice read Brooke.

I don't know why I don't have a six to append to this. It is absolutely one of your best. Very R.L. Stevensonian it is, and would fit right in with his collection of children poems.
"There seems to be an antidote
for all that makes me blue,
but nothing is a substitute
when I'm apart from you."
Charming, through and through.

Thank you so very much, Jack - any association with Stevenson is a huge, huge compliment. The Swing was my favorite poem as a child :-) Brooke

This is a really cute poem. It tells of missing the person we love the most. There is no substitute for that kind of love and acceptance. Good, fast flowing rhyme.

All the nature images you use, add to the good feeling from this poem. When bubbles burst,I blow some more is my favorite verse,it takes the reader to another place, one of contentment.

Four very good stanzas in the 8/6/8/6 form at which you are so adept. Lovely words but the final stanza is the one that touches a nerve - really lovely. Lovely picture of a little chap who is growing up before our eyes. Regards Dorothy

Okay, but I can still use Sweet 'n' Low, right?
You poems always read on different levels. On the surface are sands and kites, but beneath are all our minor and major disappoints, and our means of adjusting, and coping.
A lot to think about here. Except for the bottom line: Accept No Substitutes.
Peace, Lee

You'll have to consult those doctors and nutritionists who make the rounds of the morning talk shows to find out about the Sweet n Low, Lee. Thank you so very much, my generous friend :-) Brooke

When bubbles burst, I blow some more
to decorate the skies,
and if no hummingbirds come round,
I look for butterflies. - this verse was really my favorite, it reminds me of the me that I love. Excellent job on these rhyming quatrains!

I think my favorite form of poetry is still Quatrains (when they are written well -- and yours always are.) They are easy to read and the story is fully told. I've got six of them so I understand. Another great job, Brooke.
