'Nothing is a Substitute' is a delightfully written piece. This talented poet's work proves that every cloud has a silver lining. It was a pleasure to review a poem of this standard.

Ahh! Are you and Sawyer missing each other?? I like how you found a good replacement for each thing that might be missing. (except the other person.)Good rhyme scheme with additional internal rhyme with away/gray/pray.

On Friday his mom called me so we could talk, and then she had to call two more times because he asked for Grandma on the phone again :-) Thanks so much, Twinkle. Brooke

You always know how to put a smile on my face. This is so many things, inspirational, delightful, uplifting, and just plain precious. I really enjoyed this one. Great photo of Sawyer playing in the sandbox.

Really cute thoughts in this poem, Brooke. Excellent meter, syllables and rhymes. I spent many years living far away from my parents. Your message reminds me of how my parents missed out on so much when my children were growing up.

Updated--lost first review in cyberspace:

Hello adewpearl, Brooke, Your message is warm and heartfelt yet I could feel the wonder of it all within. Your poem is filled with great imagery, and so many of the things that I like myself:

When bubbles burst, I blow some more
to decorate the skies,
and if no hummingbirds come round,
I look for butterflies.

(I just realized the depth of ...
when bubbles burst, I blow some more:

But never do I feel sorry for myself - I just carry on.)

I also liked:

but nothing is a substitute
when I'm apart from you.

(There is no substitute for love.)

Another beautifully stated poem. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Brooke, when I think I've seen all from you, you surprise me coming up with something exceptional. This is so very beautiful. I particularly loved the third stanza. It carried a special meaning for me. Anyway, congrats! There goes another gem for your bestseller! :)

This would make a great romantic poem too. Great use of alliteration with "b". Again, your never failing optimism shines a light for all of us. The last stanza is a powerhouse.

WOW! Bingo! Another winner. You turn 'em out like the pro you are, finding just the right message in each adorable photo. Sawyer's inspiration has given you a collection that any kids' book publisher would LOVE to have! I hope you're working on submitting some of these.
