'Tis not the Bard, but pretty good poetry anyway

This is a very impressive poem. You have used some wonderful similes and brought to the for front, all of the things in life that really count. My only suggestion might me to condense it a little bit. The length, and so much covered, makes it seem just a bit redundant.

It is lengthy for sure, I had thought about it as an essay, then when I started writing turned it into free verse. I appreciate your candor and great review. Thank you, :-) Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

This is a very different type of an entry for the Valentine's poetry contest. You have thought outside of the box on this one, and have come up with an endearing write that reminds us that love is all encompassing and that there are indeed many forms of love; not just physical love.

Wonderful, vivid imagery created for your reader. My fave line is "the heart of love is the center of that meaning, the warmth and stick-to-a-tive-ness that makes a marriage last for a liftetime". I almost cried when I read that line (I was married for 36 years & then it fell apart ... I really thought we would go the distance. So that line really resonated with me.)

Well written. Thanks for sharing, Carolyn, and best wishes for the contest!

Connie :)

Very good poem that exhumes more optimism and sweetness than I can bare. So much for folks like myself who stay within the bounds of reality, as I see it anyway. None-the-less a charming poem. don

A love that brings hope springing eternal as if a bulb bursting forth
in vibrant resurrection after the frigid grip of Winter's bonds .... beautifully expressed

The heart of love is the heart that dares to be spiritual, dares to give credence to a God (who) is love,- oh, yes, I agree - amen! :)

Hello, Carolyn,

Bravo for a very different Valentine's poem. Lots of food for thought!

Have a lovely week! My best wishes in the contest.

I love it all but especially this part:The heart of love is the heart that dares to be spiritual, dares to give credence to a God that is love. Best of luck and have a great week

There is one verse you did not begin with "the heart of love. . ." I think it would have been tighter had it. . .

but this is a good read nonetheless

Within the heart of man there lies the ability to love
Not always in an erotic sense, Where passion burns and desires run wild
waiting to be tamed by gentle caress and kisses without abandon
But in a myriad of emotions which can bring one's soul to its knees
The power of nature at its best, a raging storm of happiness

nice lines

A wealth of original details that define the heart of love. I did find the format distracting, however. It looked very crowded. I suspect it would work better as an essay. Or a halibun, perhaps. For me, the line breaks didn't work effectively. I wrote some material about this in my FS book Hits and Near Misses, if you care to take a look.

Wonderful message, Carolyn. If I had any extra stars left, I'd give six just for the message. This took much thought to write. Thank you for sharing it. I agree with this totally.

April :o)
