I like how we start out with the more physical realm of "possibilities" in the first stanza (musical instruments, running races, etc) and then more onto the more imaginative ("meeting" a cuckoo bird, traveling with hippos). To a child, there is no separation between "real" possibilities and "imagined" possibilities. Everything is fair game.
I do so enjoy the whimsical nature of all your work.
Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

It is a wonderful privilege to watch a little one as he contemplates new things, for everything is new to him. I love the simply expressive line: "for I am new and life for me / has just begun." Love, Jeanie

Hello. Yep, out of the mouths of babes eh. Sometimes I go to the play gound to watch the kids being in the moment. There is such freedom in a slide or the oompah.

I'm told there's some? For me it's there ARE some if we are talking of a number of cuckoos. However, if it's custard, for example, there's some left in the bowl. Lovely poem, modified by a sensitive, creative poet. Peter
P.S. Had no sixes anyway.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Peter. Yes, I know to be correct it is there are some, but in poetry I cut myself and others more slack with such things than I ever would in prose :-)
I appreciate your gracious wish for a sixth star :-) Brooke

Colloquially, we can all be rather lax on this. Frankly, I was a little anxious about this.

Ah, yes, what an endearing poem, and a tribute to your grandson, one that you truly adore. Yes, he has so much to experience. Yet, so do all of us, regardless of age. It's when you lose that verve, do we truly age.

Hi Brooke,
A charming poem of possible futures for a lovely grandchild.
Although I would advise you steer clear of the hippo!
On my walk into work I used to pass a pond with a (I thought) friendly hippo. One day it rushed out the water and charged me - I escaped in a passing car. I was told they can get nasty when pregnant!

Lovely poem Brooke, expressing how children indeed still have their whole life ahead of them. Very easy and pleasant to read.

Delightful poem which impressively reflects the new exciting dawn of a child's journey in life and the challenges and hopefully lots of happiness along the way as we mature weary travelers know well. Great poem.

Delightful, playful, imaginative poem! Great job! Love that your examples of what's to come are unique & not overused, also appropriately fascinating examples from a child's point of view. Thanks for sharing your cheerful outlook & your lovely obsession with your grandson!

You remind us how delightful it is to view life through a child's eyes. I think this is one of the reasons I enjoy traveling so much--the fresh perspective. I enjoyed your rhymes and repeats in this contemplation. Happy weekend- Joan
