This is such a cute fun kids' poem. I think every child would love to hear this and envision all the fantasy creatures throughout the poem. And, yes, change the name to fit every child it's read to. Great job and thanks for sharing with us.

You get my last six star rating this week. This is an absolutely wonderful poem; love the sing-song of the meter, the perfectly balanced lines, the wonderful four-line ryming...everything about this poem screams quality.

Very, very nicely done. Bravo. :)

What a sweet poem. My daughter's name is Kayla too, so it made me see her as your granddaughter. She is the only child, so trust me I understand how "unspoiled" they are.
Very descriptive poem that takes a reader on a mystical journey into a magical world.
Great work

kiwi, this write is tender with emotions of a childlike perception of the world. The a-a-a-a rhyme and so on scheme is well crafted. :0 GracieAnn

This is absolutely adorable, Steve. I love the repeating lines sandwiching each stanza. What a great fairyland you weave for sweet dreams. :) Nancy

repetition and strong rhythm are so important for kids' poems, don't you think?

Absolutely. The children like to chime in on the repeats. Part of the fun. ) Nancy

A very nice read, this one! It most definitely has a wonderful Dr Seuss feel (I think I've noticed this in your other pieces), which can only make it a hit with young children (and adults alike!).
'Though they try awfully hard to be awfully good'. Repeating a word in the same line would be poetic suicide in most poems. But in a children's piece like this, it's positively delightful!

I'm thinking AA Milne rather than Dr Seuss but I reckon I can channel him if required....

Good Afternoon, Steve

This poem is just delightful and I enjoyed it very much. The cadence of the read is smooth and the mono-rhyming pattern for each stanza is creative and effective. The story line is well developed and is a delightful read for kids and adults. My only regret after reading is I don't have a six in my star tool box to award this work the recognition it deserves. Please accept this virtual six:

And this would be a lovely poem to read to my grandchildren--if any would have me. Kidding.

This is soft and sweet, Steve, as you intended. I'm impressed with your ability to take a simple idea and mold a little magic around it. I think Keilah is sweet inspiration.

Peace, Lee

Thanks, Lee - yes, she is a sweetheart - my only complaint that there aren't more, oh, that and living in a different country!
