Love this Haiku. It is not only a poem but a recipe, too. I always liked simple recipes, the kind I don't need to write down or have a bunch of measuring cups and spoons around. Hope the chicken didn't hear the part about the pan frying. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks , you might want to try this one, it is good. I let the chicken sit in salt water for a little while, drain and then put in the buttermilk. Isn't that picture a hoot? So glad you enjoyed. :-) Carolyn

That chicken picture is adorable! I love the expression :) That's a simple enough recipe and I'm impressed you fit it into a 5-7-5 syllable scheme. I know nothing about haiku except that there are lots of rules that people on this site love to point out.

Hi Joy, you are right about the pointing out of rules. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed the chicken recipe. Sort of 'domestic nature' I guess. Try it, it's easy. I let the chicken sit in salt water for a little while, drain and then sit in the buttermilk awhile. Hard to fit all that in, :-) Carolyn

this is cute., a recipe in a haiku, i would never be able to do that. a friend of mine's husband would always boil chicken and then deep fry it. i wish you the best of luck in the contest

I like the originality oh this one-- the thought of sharing a recipe.
However, it is not a haiku and the lower rating is due to the following points:
The first two lines have to be connected grammatically-- if you are framing the last line as 'kireji( as is the case here).
The syllable count is correct for a 5/7/5 poem, but it is a haiku contest.
I particularly like the last which is funny and the imagery is strong.
You should try to connect the first two lines grammatically so that it becomes a haiku. It will flow nicely then.
In general, one should not try to portray more than two images in a haiku--traditionally.
I wish you good luck in the contest.
Would be glad to re-rate if you edit it.

hahaha.. Funny, love your comments. Fried chicken (especially this way) is one of our favorite meals as well. You can put other seasoning in the flour also if you like. :-) Carolyn

Yes indeed you made me smile my friend. Now all we need is the fork you mentioned, some sweet iced tea, or a good cup of coffee, and a fresh apple pie to finish the whole thing off. It is this unforeseen warmth & wholeheartedness that impels me to honor you all the more. If ever in this unworthy life, Providence allows, I will consider myself blessed to pay you a visit.
Our weather has taken a turn for the better since Thursday & Winter is expected to dissipate much in subsequent weeks (so is what the Meteorological Association says)...
But (ironically), you as well as I know what the Met predicts oft proves the other way round!
We have never experienced snow in Calcutta (it being a temperate zone). The weather albeit cold, remains congenial all throughout. [No wonder His Majesty, (King George-VI, the Royal father of Elizabeth-II),was numb, on hearing of the British withdrawal from Calcutta (following the city's independence in 1947)... 250 years of British predominance -- (sigh).. shattered in a moment...

While it isn't poetic in the traditional sense of the haiku and doesn't deal with nature, I like the fact that it is unorthodox. I wish it had a bit more poetic sense, however. It reads like a recipe, and while that is its strength, it is also its weakness.
