losing a friend is always difficult but when it is a case of suicide it is immensely worse because one begins to wonder about the pain he might had suffered to cause him to take such a drastic action.

They have so much symbolism.
Incredibly well written with so much soul.
Please don't apolgise for the length because you write from the heart.
Great imagery and metaphor.
I was touched and I so sorry for this kind of loss.

Good Afternoon, Greg,

How beautiful! This poem is pure love wrapped up in memories and reflections of your best friend in a way that honors and remembers him in the best of lights. One can only try to remember the good things and try to understand why things happen as they do.

As for you, I strongly recommend you continue to write about your friend. I have found writing is an effective balm for hurt mind and heart. Some poems you may choose to share and others you may keep in your personal files. That is what I have done.

Thank you for sharing this deeply personal poem.

Yes please feel free. Things pass I know. This past year was the toughest of my life but I'm getting better, picking myself up :) Thank God. People who have seen those places are always in my heart. Thank you.

This is a lovely free verse, written through your friend's voice. It is written with so much feeling that there is no doubt he was a very dear friend. 'Glowing haze of a tomorrow not meant to be seen, will soon drift up from under the farthest hilltop' - lovely words - he did not intend to see another day. 'The wake of my absence would warm a bit within forgiveness' - the person about to end his life needs to know he will be forgiven - that people will understand. A fine verse for your friend. I see this is your first submission to FS. A good start and welcome. Regards Dorothy

Thank you Dorothy. You got it right on. That's great. Yes it was a tragic loss and we miss him. Truly your review was great. Thank you so much. You had a very in depth analysis. I actually started in May. I am finalizing my poetry book now. It chronicles a path of depression to hope. Sewn Into the Sky is a preview and Climbing Up the Ocean is the final poem in the book ;)

    Thank you!

That's extremely sad to have gone through that. Dealing with someone that took their own life must be an intensely hard thing to deal with

I am almost left speechless at the heft and breadth of this.
I have read it through several times and the weight of this 'story' lies heavy on my heart - such angst is rarely seen here on FS. And yet there is a sense of echoed hopefulness. . . in the balm of remembrance and the faith in reuniting.

This is truly a wondrous piece.

Wow I am touched that you reread it. Truly touched. Thank you. Yes this was the hardest poem I've ever written. It was from the perspective of the last few moments of his life, what thoughts he might have had. I used to have bad dreams about him but then one night I had a dream that he was smiling and in a beautifully bright place. That made me feel really good. Thank you so much for reading this.

I had to read it over again and then cried, very gripping and emotional, so sorry for your loss. I got deep into the poem/story/ free verse and tried to remove myself from emotional personal ties not knowing anyone, but it moves you so to envision others fighting pain and lonliness or other vices in life, thank you for sharing.

This poem sings a very sad song of lost friend. I have known of people following the same path after dealing with Cancer for a long time. I also know people who have won the fight through faith in Christ and are alive enjoying the moment. Well written poem. Thank you for sharing as I know you no doubt miss your friend. Shalom.
