Hi Steve,
You've written a beautiful poem which has many layers and speaks to me of nature and the human spirit at the same time. Great word choices and meter, as usual but still should be praised and counted. I'm not an expert at punctuation so beware but it seems like there should be a period after "tug of ancient dreams", great line by the way. You could have the winner here, good luck!

Thanks, Rodger - I'll check out that missing period. I suspect my connection to Faith may be a bit weak to make this a winner, but I was pleased with the way the sonnet emerged - after a great deal of word-wrangling as usual with these beasts!

What a lovely tribute to birds leaving the nest. I do love to read sonnets, as they flow so beautifully, as your does. I almost felt like I was flying myself - "Released at last from the tyranny of shell" nice line.
