Great little story--and the wife wasn't involved. She's free and clear and rid of the bastard. Mark's desire for the fish did him in. Your writing is stellar, as usual. Both your story and author's note are horrific.

Whooee, Dean, this is a macabre tale you have offered. Dying from a bad puffer fish would be bad enough, but dying under the autopsy knife is unimaginable. Your account of Mark's end was skillfully done, as always. Good work.

I'm not a real seafood person and that may be a good thing. i just posted a piece, under my name, that if you have time I would appreciate your reading. A lady at church has asked me to ghost write her book. I love to ghost write. She began to tell me her story and it blew my mind. She was born into family of satanic worship. The things done to her from the time she was three should get the whole lot of them executed. keep me in prayer as I work with this lady and that I will be totally tuned into to the Holy Spirit where the writing is concerned. God loves you and I do too.

Wow. Scary... not only because it was written so well with excellent description, (just the right amount without being overdone and leaving something to the imagination), but because it's in essence true. Knew there was a reason I never really cared for fish. Certainly not only a cautionary tale, but quite thought provoking. And as always, excellently/professionally written.

I suspect the man who did the autopsy ended up facing some serious charges. This is always a risk with serious trauma in an accident and it can easily be compounded by a doctor in a hurry seeing only what they expect to see.
Well written, it conveys the horror of the situation for the victim very well.
