Don't hesitate to write your own tribute. the contest was a simple way to get everyone involved in expressing birthday wishes. The outcome for the project is all about Miss E, not a prize pool.
-
I will...thank you!!!xxoo

The contest was the only way to harness all good wishes into one spot, it's about Miss E, but thanks for reading and responding.

I enjoyed so much reading your lovely tribute to Ms. Evelyn. I have not read "Behind Closed Doors' yet, but you can be sure that I will do so.

Thank you. All the tributes are sincere and Miss Evelyn will have a 'wicked' birthday reading so many kind wishes.

Thee have been a number of beautifully written tributes to Evelyn, but this one of the best. She is truly ageless. Beautiful job.

You are so very welcome.

This is a truly comprehensive overview that takes into account, not only her unique writing style, but also it delves into the heart and soul of one who has suffered much and managed to rise from the ashes to be an inspiration to many.

On her birthday, while the press takes her picture, and as she receives the trophy that Tom so kindly is rushing so she gets it, I think I'll write a story about survivors, asking for the same respect as we struggle to find our new balance, not just being rewarded near the end of the journey.

Good idea

Hi Ingrid,
a well written prompt entry, that had me feeling like I've missed out on reading a very special lady.
I think that after your story and all of the others that flood in, Miss Evelyn with probably have a lot more fans, she sounds like an amazing woman.
I hope Miss Evelyn has a wonderful eighty-seventh birthday, and remember... God loves you and so do I.
With our thoughts we create,
happy moments,
James xx

I think part of her charm is of course her age, but she doesn't mince words when it comes to revealing the domestic abuse she endured. Now figure the women's movement, damn near back to the suffragettes, and she lived it. But it was a slow haul, the fight, and women like Ev, were caught in old values and new freedoms. What's more interesting is she is STILL, from a hospital bed at that, campaigning to let abused women take heart and have courage. PLUS, she's got balls. I didn't read the book, just popped in now and then, so I ordered it on line. She's charging a whopping $20 for the book, plus delivery etc. Here's one of my favourite writers, Stan, Forestort11, practically giving a book away and this old broad has set her price. I love it. Are you sure God loves both of us? You, maybe, but me?
-
No, both of us! I'm sure on that. xx

This is such a fabulous tribute to an amazing woman! Every word seems full of admiration and respect and almost leaps from the screen with it - she deserves it, and I am so pleased to have read your essay! Best of luck in the contest. I'm sure Miss Evelyn will be delighted. :)

She'll have a book of memories from her F friends and colleagues. If something like that was presented to me, I'd be beyond words.
-
Yes, I saw that Debbie mentioned members could add a chapter, but there was no option with her poem. I also reviewed Evelyn's work prior to reading Deb's poem and saw Janie's notes. I'd like to add my tribute, as I've been along for the journey and admire her greatly.
I agree - I would feel the same, were I presented with such a book. :)
-
Go to the contest tab. there are two showing, one for prose and one for poetry, but it doesn't matter where you add your personal comments. The entry is just $2 and you will be included in the presentation. Janie plans to print it off and give her the memoir from FS.
-
Thank you. Much appreciated. But that's a book? A prompt? I don't enter prompts anymore as a rule...
-
it is set up as a prompt. Try to think of it as adding to a birthday card rather than a competition. It is the only way that Janie could advertise and get all the greetings in one place. Yes, there will be a vote, but who cares.
-
Oh, okay. No worries, except how much time I have to write something...LOL. Thank you!!!

What a wonderful tribute. She does inspire strong feelings in her readers. She is an inspiration. You touch upon some of her great attributes. She is certainly a natural story teller. Despite years of abuse, she remained strong. Her religious faith and strength come through in her stories. "Self-pity" is definitely a word this lady does not know. Great job of capturing her spirit. judi

It really is just a birthday card, for a scrapbook of memories her friend Janie King is preparing.
-
That is a wonderful idea, and yours will be a great entry in the scrapbook. judi

Hi Spiritual Echo, this is as beautiful a declaration of love as I have read. Excellently written, and to the point with no wasted words. I can't offer any advice on how to improve on that score but as a contest entry, perhaps replace trolling with trawling.
'She is an ageless, spirited lady who peeled back the skins and layers of her heart and spoke to every woman and every man who has loved a damaged soul. She has catalogued her journey with her personal experiences' This would read better in the present tense - after all she's still doing it!
Finally, happy birthday to Miss Evelyn

I think really I could add to that sentence that might clarify it is..who in her boo, peeled back...as yes, she is still ageless, but the messages came in a book she has already written. Yes, it really is just a birthday message.

The contest doesn't matter. Janie just found a way to collect birthday wishes for a friend.
-
that's what i said about the card contest. with it being displayed people are going to vote for their favorite writer, but i didn't enter to win
-
It isn't about the vote. It really was the only way to get everyone who wanted to get included together Its a very low buy in for that purpose.
