My husband and I have often spent Christmas Day alone at our own table and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There have been occasions when the children have been scattered with jobs or other family obligations, so we've had Christmas lunch on boxing Day. Great fun! On Christmas morning we made all the obligatory phone calls, and then settled down to a delightful day on our own. It works, believe me.
The cats have their own little plates of whatever we're having, and we have a ball. Last year we had seafood cocktails, cold turkey roll with cranberry stuffing, lots of salads and a delishus pudd with lashings of home made custard . We had a lovely white wine with the meal and liqueurs with the dessert . The next day we had another superlative meal with our family. Worth the wait. Cheers Cass

Sounds good Cass thanks for the lovely review. As result of our protest the year after the year we skipped Christmas (2015) Mum in law actually provided some NON fish nibbles for us...and would you believe quite a few others joined in on those too. I don't mind fish but to not provide my wife (their sibling) with a preferred selection alternative she liked was really unfair.

This was a fun read, Sankey. In all fairness, it was a fun read about a grave misdeed! Fish is lovely, but for Christmas? Gosh, I've never considered fish for Christmas. You are quite right--it deserves something better. We always have turkey. We only eat one turkey a year--but it's on Christmas.

Yep mate. I miss the roast lamb/ beef and Pork and the odd turkey as well. A lot of accountants in the family I think they are getting mean and stingy with the fare. But then as I said we ain't going no more anyway. Last year we did a baked dinner on Christmas Ev e and we repeated it on Christmas Day ourselves then went over to the "outlaws" hehe for late Christmas Dinner. Thanks for the great review.

You can't beat a good roast. We have them often. To be honest, I think many modern women are too lazy to cook; and some young ones have turned vegan and vegetarian to avoid cooking meat.
reply by the author on 28-Jun-2017
YES I think the Vegan thing is what happened the other year, also the FISH!

this is a fine piece of poetry dear sanky! i am however weary of this being a free verse as they don't really rhyme even though they do have some structure.. if you can prove me wrong?
thank you for sharing!
good luck!

It amazes me the number of you occasional reviewers who like my stuff but mark me down for nefarious reasons. I think I put this in for a contest ages ago. The contest is no longer.

i have no intentions of being mean. i will revise your poem as i thought it could not be a free verse but you have proven me wrong.

I appreciate your response thanks for the update. You might like to read a recent poem I wrote (sorry Rewards are gone) called "Why Is Your Scoring So Boring." No insult intended. It is in the book of Ranting and Raving stuff.

Really? Fish? Now that's different. I usually make manicotti, but this year I made a ham. It was way too big. We are still eating ham, and there's more in the freezer.
Fun poem, good rhymes, good picture.

Thanks How come you are a bit mean on the points I thought a four was for errors? Thanks anyway. I very rarely give fours even when there are spags but we are all different I guess.

I have fixed it. Sorry, didn't mean to offend.

No worries I have a pretty good record of good reviews so it probably did not matter I appreciate the upgrade.

Fish! For Christmas! Bring out the Christmas police. make them eat fruit cake each day, until they promise never, ever to commit such a faux pax. Maybe you could get turkey scented car deodorizer and make them put a fresh one in place each day.

Fun poem

Good complimentary photo. Good use of the abcb rhyme scheme. Good end rhyming. Good perfect rhyming with fish/wish. Good rhythm, good flow followed by a clear message.

It's rather sad that the trend for Christmas family celebrations seems to be moving toward individual couples rather than whole family celebrations.
I guess it is true though that expense, food allergies and fads and just differing personalities and life choices all take their toll.
Wherever, or however, you spend your Christmas I hope next year is better for you.

Thanks friend appreciate your kind thoughts. I guess so much has happened this year as per my other poem and so on the Christmas Day fracais just topped all the disappointments. We can't share it all with our inlaws as they just would not understand.

I liked this very much. It flowed nicely. It reminded me of how sometimes I wish Christmas was just over or not come at all. I've felt that way before. But it is also nice to do just what you want to do. Thank you

AMEN friend how true this is. Christmas is always a traumatic time for us. We have all these "controllers" around us who want us to do what THEY want. Don't care two hoots about what WE MIGHT like to do.
We had a tie when we enjoyed going to church. Not anymore because of the exact same thing as above. Controllers want you to do it their way or they don't want to know you. Can't just be friends. Be controlled or you are out of the group. Worst of it all is THEY DON'T THINK THEY ARE CONTROLLERS!! Sigh. Sorry for raving.

I am not sure what to make of up. I have never heard of having fish for Christmas, but I have never lived in an area where fish was abundant. So who knows. I did enjoy reading your poem.

Hi Thanks Barbara glad you enjoyed it. We do like Tuna Mornay and crumb fish fillets but apart from that forget it hehe.
reply by barbara.wilkey on 27-Dec-2013
I do like a lot of different fish, if it's fresh, but not a Christmas. We often vacation on the Gulf of Mexico during the summer and we often can get fresh fish.

I'm not that big on fish myself, but every time we eat out, my husband orders salmon. It seems like it would be possible to offer a choice of entrees. Excellent rhyme and flow in this. Sounds like you were outnumbered, with fish being the choice of the majority. It seems like some people can't accept the choices of others. judi

Right we don't mind, say, Tuna Mornay, or we do like Fish fillets crumbed which we have nearly once a week, nor necessarily on Friday neither hehe. Actually a whole nother point about all this is I am Type 2 Diabetic and while it is pretty well under control I am ruled by the clock as far as eating is concerned. Thanks again good friend.
reply by judiverse on 27-Dec-2013
You're so welcome. Tuna casserole for my husband and me tonight. Ate all the turkey. judi

We didn't get no Gobble Gobble. Tuna Casserole sounds like Tuna Mornay actually. Good stuff. Tell him you're not the only one not mad about Salmon hehe.
