This is a beautiful and apt poem for the time of the year that the author has created with this piece of writing. This is just putting me in the mood for Christmas.

What a wonderful little story, Brooke, which I'm sure will be a serious contender for the contest. I like the message you convey here that we should appreciate what we have. One small thing I wondered about: Shouldn't there be quotation marks around the third from last stanza where the homeless man says, "I only intended to . . ."? I truly enjoyed reading this.
Merry Christmas!
Connie

This is a nice poem about Christmas and sharing with others, written in the quatrain style with rhyming couplets with good rhythm and rhyming throughout the poem.

Bravo Brooke!!! This is a dy-no-mite poem. A wakeup call for all the selfish behavior we see show its ugly face around Christmas. Love the picture of Sawyer and his mom! Merry Christmas. Nancy

This poem brilliantly brings out the clear message of the presents we buy for Christmas which ends up getting thrown away within a few years or becomes part of a garage sale. I know this from the tons of toys etc my kids got when they were young and which has been in the trash for years but fortunately some poor families had the benefit of them. Well done. Happy Xmas.

Rod, thank you so very much :-) I marvel at all the stuff people throw out when it would be considered a Godsend in a home nearby. Merry Christmas! :-) Brooke

The joy of giving and not getting should be the center theme of Christmas. Somehow each year it seems to be increasingly buried under merchandising which starts early(before Halloween) and runs somewhere past New Years.

Thank you for this wonderful parody of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'.

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you, too, Ellen. Yes, I am one of those people turned off by Christmas merchandising in mid October. Especially when you realize more than half the stuff people buy as presents is stuff that will not be appreciated one little bit. Brooke :-)

What a beautiful and meaningful poem with such an important message. Don't take anything for granted. People are suffering out there! What little we have to complain about - well, be grateful that's all we have to complain about. Absolutely wonderful! Great job!!!

cute picture
good luck in the contest
your verses have great enjambment to allow the flow of this poem there is good alliteration throughout your poem
the rhyme flows and works in this poem
your words allow the reader to see and feel the images of the old man collecting for others
then the feeling of how one can be wasteful and offered more
cheers Smoothiecool
