Excellent poem, the rhyming keeps it flowingo. I usually find long poems do not hold my interest, but yours did. You started out light hearted and ended with a different kind of light hearted. Well done.

I've never read a better parody of "Twas the Night Before Christmas. It has your usual masterful phrasing and rhyming, along with an important message. Nice job. Happy New Year!

What a fun parody, Brooke, with a great message, too. Hope you had/are having a great visit. Christmas is always better with the grandkids. :) Nancy

Nancy, thank you so very much :-) I had my visit two weeks ago, but I have to learn to be happy with what I get :-) Brooke

You make such a good point here, we have so much stuff we throw out but many homeless people could use what we discard. This is an excellent and relevant rendition of the traditional Christmas poem and your words should be put into action.

What a wonderful take on the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem. You version has excellent rhyme and flow, and the story is tells is so wonderful. Frankly, I skipped over some poems because they sounded so depressing. Yours has such an uplifting thought. We are so quick to discard things that don't please us, but they may be treasures to someone else. Wonderful story of the old man sorting through the Christmas discards for items other might appreciate. Like the ending with the narrator finding more things for the needy folks. Like the "mountain of gold" description of things he had accumulated. judi

I feel like I'm looking at the world from within a mirror, seeing but unseen, this poem has great perspective!

What a busy old man, so nimble and quick,
I thought for a moment it must be a trick.
More rapid than eagles he darted and dashed
as he sorted what we had rejected and trashed.- one man's trash is another's treasure! Nice work!

CUTE, CUTE, AND MORE CUTE. I enjoyed reading your version of the Night Before Christmas. I have read that story/poem so often to my own children and to my first graders that I honestly know it by heart. I'd better get a life. LOL

I used to be like that when my two were young. I knew many books by heart as well as movie scripts since they would watch the same videos over and over. Thanks so much, Barbara :-) Brooke

I really like this spoof of the famous poem, but it's even better because of its commentary on our wasteful society. As usual, your rhythm and rhyme were flawless. Good CHARACTERIZATIONS of both the Speaker and the homeless man through dialog and action. One of your best this year, Brooke.

Wow Brooke! This took me by surprise. It started off "cute" and became very emotional. It is all so true too and that is very sad. Great, great poem!

nice take on the poem and a good object lesson for us. . . we ought to be happy for what we give, not judgmental about what we got. . .

nice pice

Petriesan, thank you so much :-) Yep, we need to look to the children. My grandson's favorite plaything is a vacuum cleaner toy handed down from the little girl my daughter nannies. He has things newer and more expensive, but it's the one that floats his boat. LOL :-) Brooke
