Hi Brooke This poem is just so lovely. As usual very well rhymed and shows the readers that we should be satisfied and thankful with the blessing we've got. Cheers Gaye

I remember we studied Clement Moore's classic poem in class.
You have written a wonderful parody presenting a little different message than the original, but it works perfectly. Nice rhythm and good use of feminine end rhymes in places. I think the true meaning of Christmas and the birth of Christ is to love our fellow man and give without judgment, as I know you do in your church and community. I always give old clothes and household items to charity.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
All the best, Rodger

Thanks, Brooke. It was a very good day though my grandsons (second one just arrived last Friday) are far away in New Mexico. Hoping I can visit them next year.

How lovely, Brooke. This brings such imagery to mind, of all the things we do trash without thinking about it. We are a wasteful country for sure. This was very well written.
I loved reading it. MIss Sally

I'm not rich, but I often think about those who are even poorer than me. I have made a vow to buy one gift for a stranger each month. On Christmas Eve I paid for an old man's prescriptions because he didn't have enough. He said he'd pay me back, but I've decided to just write it off. Your poem is a wonderful reminder of how it should be. Don't toss out, donate. Don't let food go to waste, take it to someone who doesn't get enough to eat. Give, give, give and give some more. It really does make you feel a little bit better. Nice job on a classic.

Gretchen, I organize our church's annual clothing sale - all donated clothes sold at bargain basement prices to those who can't afford store prices, and then the unsold stuff goes to shelters where people can't even afford our prices. It is amazing how much clothing people have to give away because they've outgrown it or it's just a little out of style now or because they simply buy a new wardrobe each year. We even get clothes with tags on them from folks who experienced buyer's remorse. Some people don't bother to donate to this kind of clothing drive - they just toss last year's jacket when they buy a bigger, better, newer one this year. It makes me cry to think of it. Same with toys. Half my grandson's toys, including his very favorite toy, are hand me downs from the little girl my daughter nannies for. He does not care that they didn't come with tags, and still you see people throwing out used toys all the time. People who can't afford to go out and buy new to give away can just give away what they were thinking of chucking. Thanks so much for your thoughtful response to this poem's message. :-) Brooke

"
His words, how they touched me. They couldn't be truer,
till somehow my troubles seemed smaller and fewer.
I no longer cared if our sweaters seemed tasteful
and shuddered to think of our ways oh so wasteful.
"

Once again, I am mind-blown by your artistic brilliance. The stanza above is my personal favorite.

Write on!

Brooke, what a cute way to adapt this poem. I really liked the message that it tells us. And, wait, no picture of Sawyer on this one? LOL... Hope you and yours are having a wonderful Christmas. Jerri

Jerri, early on I posted this without a picture of Sawyer, but since then I've changed to a photo of him and his mom :-) Thanks so much :-) Brooke

I thought that the message of this poem was important/powerful. I absolutely loved this line: The five-day-old snow sucked the light from the moon. Caroline

What a wonderful night-after-Christmas poem, Brooke. It's light-hearted but has a great moral lesson on gratefulness and sharing. (I love the creative line about how the snow "sucked the light from the moon.") May all your days after Christmas be wonderful, your New Year be blessed. Love, Jeanie

This is a great parody and I loved the unexpected sweet turn the poem took at the end. I also laughed aloud at the thought of a pink paisley tie!

Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas, Brooke, and a fabulous 2014.

Kindest of Christmassy regards,

Julie :-)
