A heartfelt message for all of us to heed reminding us of the resin for the season. Having worked retail for most of my adult life I saw the gradual erosion of the meaning of christmas, the earlier decoration of the stores and the steady encroachment on employees family time around the holidays. I suppose I'll get around to writing a story about it sooner or later. Just I have flashbacks about how much working in retail took the spirit out of Christmas for me.

I can understand. I stopped my McDonald's in town the other day to get a soda and they had a sign out that they would be open 24 hours on Christmas. How horrible. Thank you for understanding.

I (Janie) did all but my student teaching for K-3 and by the time I got there I knew I couldn't handle it. I would have been taking most of them home with me, I would have been the poorest teacher on staff because I can't stand for a child/family to do without. The odds all there's more than the one child in your class at home that is doing without. I have enough issues with just the one's we get in church, in fact I'll be spending the rest of my afternoon wrapping gifts for little one's to take to the church tonight. I had to come to the conclusion I can't take care of all of them and thank God for the one's he allows me to share with. It's hard when there's no real good reason for it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. God loves you and so do we.

There was a little girl we want to help in the school and they wouldn't allow us too. She wears the same clothes every day and smells like pee, we just wanted to leave 3 outfits, socks, panties that they could change her into when she came to school so the other kids wouldn't be mean to hear and we weren't allowed. Beats me. God loves you and so do we.

Sounds like some of my children. I have bought winter coats, shoes, socks and clothes.

Why wouldn't the school let us help the little girl in secret, we just wanted to leave it in the counselors office. I'm still upset about it as this little thing is running around without socks and in shorts in 12 inches of snow. Where is the heart of this? Since I don't have any children in the school system I have no say about anything. God loves you and so do we.

It is an immense contrast to the children in your care, and to many beyond by the statistics you've quoted. It is galling to think that countries like ours (Australia in my case) have such differences between rich and poor, and the criminal thing is that the gap grows. It seems to me that greed is at the heart of it; greed corporate and greed within individuals. The children in your class are just the visible tip of the iceberg of inequality. Historically, its been a war or great economic hardship within a nation that brings people together, but its hard medicine. Judging by your extreme concern for your little ones, you are doing what you can to help them at this stage. And I think that is our role in life; to achieve what we can, when we can, whenever we can - love in all things. Your reflection here is heartfelt and timely. As you can see, you got me thinking. A raindrop in spool of hope, perhaps!

It is an immense contrast to the children in your care, and to many beyond by the statistics you've quoted. Your 'Why???' has certainly started an echoing the same in the minds of many.Materialistic nature has become the secondary approach in most today.All of us have experienced this behaviour from many in our lives.Most of us take things as they are,what we have been seeing rather than actually thinking and contemplating them.Your work is short but has quite a food for thought.Good one.
