I just love this. You are so right about the importance of pets for children as they grow up. Animals have so much to teach us thick humans. I've never met a box turtle, but I just fell in love with Pud, and the story of Peachy and Sheba is one not to be forgotten. As you say this is unformatted, I wont bother mentioning a typo in there somewhere, but I dont think it really needs much formatting, it reads just fine. I can't wait to read more. Best wishes, Hadria.

Oh? I hadn't noticed that. I would think it would be the opposite. But, humans are hard to figure that is for sure. Merchants have it rough. It is the hardest thing being a small business person. Everyone thinks your rich especially family members. Of course, you are barely scrapping by.

Darling story, Michael. And also astute. We can indeed learn a lot from animals. I grew up on a small farm. Everyone had a job, including the animals. The cats were "mousers", the dog was a "ratter", and also kept intruders at bay. My feeling even to this day is that animals like to have a job. Like humans, they need to be occupied and productive.

Poor mother-in-law. She takes a ribbing in this. LOL
Good break up of narration with dialogue. You're right about animal lovers. They tend to be more friendly. Some paragraps suffer from overuse of "I". I'm trying to finish an essay on how to avoid that. Hopefully, post it tomorrow.

You have a terrific sense of humor. Just love that last paragraph. It made me laugh out loud. When my mother and I moved to Mexico, Hillary, our Basset Hound suddenly died. She was very old and I think knew something was up. My mother and I loved her dearly and losing her was heart breaking.

I too believe that Animals are great teachers as well as companions. Being an only child, for all intents and purposes, my first dog - Auggie- was my brother. Though my mom expressly said no dogs, I brought this little stray home ( lab-shep-malamute mix) who grew to be 112 pounds. Also had an aquarium of fish, one of frogs and newts, a turtle, chameleons and a tree frog, a gerbil, two guinea pigs, mice and a hamster all at the same time. Now just have 3 cats, a dog, and 4 birds.

Wow. That all sounds like home to me. An only child too. Found some half brothers and sisters much later. But, I was already grown up and didn't want to share my popcorn by then, mikey

Pet biographies make such interesting reading, I love animal stories and movies better than the human kind! Your pets were so well-loved that you would risk danger and trouble just to keep them. Well-written, good flowing story. Faye

Your right. Kids learn a lot of their morals from animals. They certainly learn about true friends. I have never been able to just turn a living creature loose. I think it is cruel and inhumane. My last pets were seven horses. Great work.
