These short ones can be a challenge. Thank you for the review and the stars. We are heading to Phoenix on the 18th to see our son and granddaughters, and my husbands elderly parents. If it weren't for family I would have a bad case of the 'envies'.

What I get from this poem is that the narrator is dreaming a lovely white beach instead of the nasty cold white stuff that so much of the country is getting right now. :) Completely understandable. I do think, however, that the poem is a bit too repetitive because every line has an abstract reference to a dream (reverie / dream / head trip). I think the poem would be stronger if the details of the dream, or something about the narrator's perspective of the dream, could be developed further. Good luck in the contest!

Thanks Julie for this thoughtful review and good wishes. Yes, it is all about dreams and the different ways of saying it. .

Hi Carolyn,

I am in the equatorial and right int he middle fo the earth - it is so hot sometimes, we don't know what to do, smiles.

A great metaphor of the white snow looking like white sand in our muse on a dark night and the only thing missing is the beach, of course, smiles.
Excellent write and well penned.
Good luck to the contest.
Cheerio, hugs and luv, Ritchie. :))

It must be Saturday there, about 10:00 am my friend. It is raining and snowing here in Missouri. Send two quarts of hot sunshine please, asap. LOL, Thanks for this wonderful review and the best wishes, it would be nice to win. (But I am sure everyone who enters feels that way too) :-) Love, Carolyn

I am going to send 50% of the sunshine to you. Lucky we have some rain that cools down the weather, smiles.
This write is a bit special as teh word weave is good and the imagery is excelelnt - snow and sand, we cannot tell the difference on a dark night. Snow definitely is pure nature and the haiku had a genuine flavor to it.
Cheerio, love and hug, Ritchie. :))

I will serve up the sunshine to Larry as soon as it arrives. :-) Love, Carolyn

Now the name Larry come to mind one thing -
People with this name have a deep inner desire to use their abilities in leadership, and to have personal independence. They would rather focus on large, important issues, and delegate the details. Tend to be idealistic, highly immaginative, intuitive, and spiritual. They seek after spiritual truth and often find it. They tend to be visionary and may inspire others. If they fail to develop their potential, they may become dreamers, or misuse power.
That's the meaning and it actually means 'Laurel'. Smiles.
    Love, Ritchie. :))

All your poems reflect your beautiful soul, carolyn, and your ability to express feelings so effectively even in a 5-7-5 contest poem is incredible.

This is a perfect 5-7-5 verse which meets all the contest requirements:
Snow-bound reverie

crystal dreams of warm white sand

nocturnal head trip

Yes, I know. Winter can get like that. It just seems to stay so cold for too long.

I am sitting here in the warm writing. The snow always looks beautiful but freezing and what a mess it makes as it thaws.
The picture is lovely. well done I like your wording very much. Thank you.

Of course the form of the poem is exquisite...a snowflake, great imagery and use of perfect words: crystal, nocturnal and the contrast of warm white sand.

Great poem Carolyn and after reading your author's notes I have to say that I concur with you completely! (as I sit here right now it's 2F with a wind-chill of -12F outside)

Thanks for sharing this and let's try to just wish the snow away! If nothing else, we can hope for nocturnal relief that might take us "Siberia-nites" on a trip to say...Jamaica for awhile?! :)

We are heading to Phoenix on the 18th through the end of the year. Warmer climate, but I wish it were Ocean front, oh well, guess we can't have everything. LOL Great review of this one Jeffrey, :-) Carolyn
