more than writing you are an expert in semiotics and semiology and soon one in semantics...I have some examples as requested, more is the reason since I am an ESOL...so :"however(how??)", " are you all right?(yes, exempt for my lolling tongue...)"
A nice topic, great writing.

Ha! Yes, there are many examples. I just love words and all the ways we twist them. Of course, it's difficult to point these things out without seeming pompous, but a writing site is a safe enough place to run my mouth (another interesting phrase).

Lovely, I just love the absurdity of the things people say, 'I care less' is one of my pet hates, you have a grand typo in paragraph 6 "the vest gulf"! One of my favourite comments on the absurdity of words is the following: Why do thet call it an asteroid when it is outside the hemisphere, but a haemorrhoid when it is in your butt." I trust you wont find that a bit vulgar. By the way, can a tangent wind? I hope to read more of your writing.

Lol, that was quite a typo - thanks for the catch! Amusingly, I almost commented on my tangent line (I suspect, as you imply, a tangent is usually straight). Love the haemorrhoid comment :-). Don't worry, I'm almost impossible to offend. Thank you for the awesome (!) review.

Intelligent, fun and interesting write, Mike.

I guess few of us make sense all the time. I particularly worry myself when I don't know what I am talking about.

Of course the written word is more open to license in metaphors and reverse syntax in poetry, as examples, and to listen to a Cockney's rhyming slang for long would have me 'going out of my mind' too. :-)

Cheers, Ted

Lol, thanks Ted. I grew up with a Dad for whom a cigarette was an 'oily' and anyone disabled was a 'raspberry' so I can totally relate to your last comment. I've been thinking about these things for a while and felt the need to speak!
