Whenever I have a six, Dean, it's yours. Your Rrevisit honors the haunted bard with the eerie and morbid tone that Poe made famous. The loniness, misery, guilt, and self-loathing drip from every line. Nice.

    Thanks, Bill.
This is one of the first poems I'd ever posted when coming to FanStory back in 2013. I don't know if you remember a poet here who went by the name of Gungalo? Pam--may she rest in peace (Gungalo)--, she helped me a great deal with getting this to the point you see it now. It was Pam who got me reading and writing poetry in the first place. She was such a dear, talented lady.
Thanks for the complimentary comments, as well as for that shiny sixth star. I'm sure Gungalo--wherever in the heavens she happens to be perched--is as proud as I am humbled by your review.
    Take care, my friend...

Thanks for taking the time to revisit Lenore with me, Dip. This was one of the first poems I'd ever written and posted when I first came here to FS nearly three years ago.
I appreciate the sixer and your complimentary comments in review.
Take care, cobber, and don't be such a stranger. You're missed around here...

'Oh, Raven, no Lenore lies here, she now no more than dust...'
Yet, he looked on, fearing not, t'was as if my voice, he didst not trust...'

I think the advice to read a lot of good writing, in your case poetry, is why we are able to write in such a productive and excellent manner, Dean. I can relate to the dream situation. I used to have very lucid, fascinating dreams when I wasn't having to take a sleeping pill to sleep. At the time, I'd come to dread these nighttime journeys because they really messed with my mind. So, there a special chord of connection with me for this poem. I miss those dreams now because I think they are so very magical. As your interpretation in this dream suggests.

So very well done!

Thanks very much for reading this, Bev, and for your fantastic feedback as always.
This one one of the first poems I'd ever had the nerve to post on FanStory when I first became a member back in 2013. Gungalo, may she rest in peace, helped me a great deal with this one, so it will always be kind of special to me. I'm really pleased to know that you found it to be pretty special too.
Take care, and thanks so much again for stopping by. It is always such a pleasure to hear from you.

Gungalo was a really classy lady. She died way too soon!

You're very welcome, Dean. I've never regretted reading anything you've ever posted LoL.

"A dirge for her the doubly dead in that she died so young."
-- Edgar Allan Poe, Lenore

As you know, I love Poe's poetry as well. For his mastery in poetry but also for his darkness, eeriness and melancholia. I can relate to him in a deep level and just looking at him and reading his poems, I can feel IT, I can taste IT, he is drained in IT.

You captured that feeling here. The words, the music, the presentation. To top it all off, you have made it PERSONAL you have given it life, and I pray to God that you will never have to live through that kind of loss. I haven't felt it yet, nor I ever want to.

I am impressed that you had that kind of haunting and terrifying dream and you are not completely insane and locked up in an insane asylum. I know I would.

This is the kind of masterpiece that should be 'revisited' over and over again, so I will keep a copy in my bookcase. I must say, my bookcase should be named after you someday LOL You are not the only one there but pretty darn near.

On this note, I was sitting in my living room by my dining table, deep into what I was painting and someone or something stood right behind me and whispered in my ear, an incoherent word that I have no clue what it could mean. This is not as scary as your dream but it shook me badly. Needless to say, I had to go to sleep with my lights on. LOL

Well done, my dark and handsome man

Gypsy...darlin'. You're making me BLUSH over here (See? Heh-heh...)!
As you already know, Poe is my hero when it comes to the classic poets. Hell, ANY poet, for that matter. His work is tinged with such a deep, dark, emotional sadness that it's almost palpable. He's achieved in death what he could never achieve in life. Popularity. Oh sure, he was moderately popular in his day, don't get me wrong. Still, his war of words with Longfellow and many others tainted his image, his reputation, and his career.
So, for you to compare anything I've written to the master of the macabre, I take that, and that alone, as the very highest of compliments. If you had simply said, "Dean...this reads so much like Poe!", well, that's all you would have said and I would have been ecstatic.
So, thank you for your glowing compliments, your adoration for what it is I try to do here, and your more than generous and wonderful support. Not to mention the six stars (but, I just did, didn't I, LOL?).
I am deeply humbled and extremely grateful to you for all of it.
    Thanks so much, darlin'.
You're one of a kind, and one of the best kind...
    HUGE Hugs,
    Much luvs...

Great poem, and a great read about her visit in the dead of night. As always, interesting author's notes that add to the poem.

Thanks for revisiting this revival of one of my first ever poems I posted here, Pearl. It was written in 2013 when I first arrived at FanStory.
Seems more like a decade than three years, heh-heh.
Thanks so much again for checking this out.
    I do appreciate it.

Vance, your enthusiasm is contagious, my friend, and very much appreciated.
Gungalo (may she rest in peace) helped me immensely with this poem as it was one of the very first poems I'd ever written and posted on FanStory.
I deeply appreciate your very complimentary review, as well as the generous six star rating.
As always, thank you for reading my work and providing me with you unique insights into it.
    Warmest wishes, my friend...

As I read, I wondered about Poe and after I read your author's notes my questions were answered. You are one of the most talented authors on this sight.

My interest in Poe is always tweaked by your superb poems
I always found the connection
between the two poems, Lenore and The Raven fascinating
Lenore even contains the line, "yet, rave not thus"
as if anticipating the future poem.
Yet it was almost fifteen years before the masterpiece would arrive
There has never been anything quite like The Raven
and the lost Lenore
I enjoyed your combining the two,
the Raven, the dark accuser,
it's too late, the falsely accused, the defamed Lenore
She of dark beauty, will rise no more
Let her rest in peace, rest in truth
a single black rose

Six black roses

Your six black roses are greatly appreciated, Pam, as Robert, as well as your grasp of my intentions for this poem. It is one of the first poems I had ever written and posted when coming to FanStory in 2013, and a dear poet who has since passed on by the name of Gungalo (Pam, may she rest in peace) was instrumental in assisting me in making this poem what you read here.
Thanks first and foremost for reading this, and for your very generous six star rating as well.
As always, I deeply appreciate it.
    All my best...

You have a way of bringing the entire show with you when you come to town. Though I must admit, I was thrown by my love of 'Moonlight Sonata' and ended being distracted.
I realized afterward the connection between the two works, well, three if you throw in the drivel that Poe wrote (We all know he could have learned a thing or two from you). Soft, slow, subtle brilliance, that though feels easy, is hard to master in its perfection.
I have always found your work to have been a labor of love and appreciation for the art.
Thank you for investing your time into my enjoyment of it.
Jimmy

Thank you, Jimmy. That is very kind of you to say, my friend, I appreciate that.
This particular poem was written in 2013--one of my first ever poetic endeavors on FanStory, and remains unaltered from the original, for the most part.
Take care, my friend, and thanks so much for giving this one a look.

What captures my awe is your ability to tell such a profound
and gripping story in poetry form! This is a long piece, yet
I cannot find a single place to say, "Fix it." For someone who
sleeps so rarely, how do stay so damn sharp! A most
entertaining piece, Dean. -Bill

Oh, you are far too kind, Bill. But don't think for one moment that I don't appreciate your kindness.
As for this particular poem, it is one of my first attempts at poetry I ever posted here on FanStory back in 2013 when I first joined. I had a lot of help from a very dear lady, Gungalo (may she rest in peace), who was instrumental in getting me to write poetry and express myself in it in the first place.
Thanks so much for the very generous rating, as well as your outstanding comments and feedback. As always, I always appreciate your take on my work.
Take care, Bill, and thanks so much again.
