Great poem, D-Nuts. I have read a little about Raven's Fare, and I am totally intrigued by ghost towns. Maybe I will go there on vacation, I doubt the Missus will give that the green light though. Great stuff.

Yeah, it's a creepy place, that's for sure, 'Sak! What say we book a trip there, just for shits and giggles, whaddaya say?

    Thanks for the fantastic review!

Very nice. It has a sort of direct almost conversational narrative style that reminds me a bit of some works of Rudyard Kipling's. Rhymes fall naturally and never seemed forced or artificial. A fine atmospheric poem.

Thank you, LeMuseNoir, I'm glad you picked up on the casual tone. I intended it to sound like a traveler of the old west, relaying a warning. I really appreciate the review!

This is going to sound like a strange thing to comment on, but I enjoyed reviewing this poem because it didn't require me to make the font smaller and scroll from left to right in order to read it. I've passed up some of your work because the formatting of it made it a chore to read :-)
Excellent use of abab rhyming
nice touches of alliteration
vivid, mood creating detail
Love the raven sounds in the background

I apologize for the font foibles, Brooke. I believe I'm just about done with this format. All of my poems from now on will be standard fare, presented like everyone else's are. Hey...I tried to be creative, innovative and unique. But, that doesn't always pay off, I fear.

Anyway, I am glad you got to read this one, at least. And don't worry, you wont be seeing any more posts like this from me.
reply by adewpearl on 05-Nov-2013
Don't get me wrong - I had nothing against the innovative creativity - just the fact that it didn't fit my computer screen :-)

I understand. I just feel it's about time to abandon the pictapoem ® project. I think it has run it's course. But, it was a fun ride while it lasted!

I have one last one of this format saved, and it is a free verse. The only free verse I have done in this format. It's been sitting under preview mode for about a month now. I've been too scared to release it, as I am not a master of free verse in the slightest.

Very scary, intimidating even. Brilliantly orchestrated and written with perfection. Leaving nothing else to the imagination. You have turned me into a horror fan!

Thanks, TOMORAL, I've always appreciated your encouragement and support. I hope you've liked this 'pictapoem' format, as this and one more will be the last.

    Thanks again...

No .thanks but no thanks! i would not want to take a holiday ,not even to see the ghost of Petey.the pictures are haunting and your lines too convey the sense of dread and spookiness.i will keep well away from Raven's fare.

Where do you find out these things?? LOL it was a well written poem with a solid message and good rhyme, but I think the flow may have been a tad off. But that is just me.
Well done. :) SS

Thanks, SS. I'm glad you liked it. the syllable count of 10,8,10,8, in a,b,a,b rhyming quatrains, probably threw you off a tad. It's rarely used in such a way. However, I did it intentionally to give this particular poem a rough demeanor, as one would expect from a cautionary tale being told by a weary, scared sh!tless traveler of the old west who has been witness to these events.

Thanks for the review, and I'll see ya on the other side...

Raven's fare it sounds like a good place to write about it but not to visit, I'm afraid, unless you're really adventurous and not easily impressed. :)
Your poem is a great start to a movie or a book inspired in such a spooky place.

I'm glad that you are enjoying my pictapoem ® series. I realize, by their design with music and animation, that they are not for everyone. But, above all, I concentrate extremely hard on getting the writing just right. The rest, all of the "bells & whistles"? That's just the gravy on the meat.

    Thanks again, Angel...

I actually was on your profile to better find the reviews that were missing and saw your post asking an opinion about a cover, but I was not sure what pictapoem series were. Now I now better.

That's the one I liked too. But, I'm not going to tell anyone that, I want their honest opinion.

That's two votes for cover #2, yours, and mine...

I think people who appreciate horror stuff will like that one best.

Amazing. You write this so perfectly and seemingly like second nature. It flows as though it is a language you speak. everything is so perfectly appointed to the mood of this. I shall one day figure this out. I suppose if you had a book of these you could include a dvd or interactive cd right? There would be some way to market this as it is here. That would be unique as far as I know. The poetry stands on its own. But, it is mad fun with all of the additions. Like a mini-event. mikey

Hey, Dean, hello. An excellent piece of poetry you have have penned here, friend. Thanks for the author notes too. Boy, how crappy of a nun would you have to be to be left here roaming the earth instead of going on, haha. That's too weird. Fantastic write, D.

Now on to another subject. I wrote a poem for a contest and ended up making it into a song. I went as far as finally getting it into a mpg file but the dumb site still won't take it so the people can hear it as they read it. So I decided to go a different route. I just finished making it a youtube video and I'm ready to get it on here but I am driving myself nuts tying to figure out how to get a youtube video on here. I didn't want to bother you with it but like I said, I'm about to throw this stupid computer out the window. Lol. I see you have 3 vids on this piece. Please shoot me a PM and tell me the secret I'm apparently too stupid to figure out. It can't be that hard. I'm all ready to go I just need to know how to get the video on here. I'd really appreciate it, Dean. Again, great write, friend. Have a good one.

Ron

Thanks a bunch for this outstanding review, DragonSkulls, I really appreciate the awesome response!

I only wish fans of my poetry were as passionate about my prose. My horror short, Right Down the Drain is getting decimated in the current Story of the Month contest, but oh well. It was cool just to be nominated, and people still have seven days left to vote, so...

Thanks again, Ron. I sincerely appreciate it.

Any time, Dean. Thanks for the info on the youtube vid. I pretty well had it figured out already. I added a vid with me singing the lyrics to "Fortress Walls" if interested. I'll have to go goof with it so it plays automatically. Thank you for that. I wouldn't have been able to figure that one out. I'll go check out you story here shortly. Yeah, just getting nominated's a good thing. I'll gab with you later, friend.

This is a chilling poem. I like the story and the notes are interesting. I have heard of these old abandoned towns and I would love to visit one, not at night though. Your writing is excellent, and so is the layout and graphics. Thanks for the entertaining read.

Thank you very much, Liz. I am very grateful for such a glowing review.

These types of places have always held a deep fascination for me. I should have been a paranormal investigator. I could be running around with Zack on Ghost Adventures, LOL.

    Thanks again, my friend!
