I wish mine were, my teen is a honey, but my adolescent a pain. I have cancer, she mimics my pain, calls me a bitch and says I'm still a mother.

I love that archaic word 'fain'! I've never seen it used as a noun before but it seems to work. I'm afraid that many children do know pain and never forget it. There are some cruel people in this world. But I know what you mean. They don't torture themselves with recrimination. They live much more in the 'now' than most adults do. This is an interesting and thought provoking little poem!

"Children don't know pain
Cause they easily forget
Smile, and they are fain"!
Lovely piece of work nicely described momentum feeling of children without any centiment. Good luck.
