Top entry for the contest, Steve.

Perfect cartoon of the grumpy old man.

Terrific flow and loads of fun. I hope you don't hear from a reviewer who 'docked me a star' for my entry because, same as yours, it included more than one disaster. :-)

'bumpy-thumping' and 'wishing to leave the room' descriptions for the washer are so apt and visual, and hilarious too.

Well worth a sixer if I had one left.

I thought my entry was pretty good, but I'm now waving the white flag. :-)

Cheers, Ted

ADDED - I feel a teeny bit better now, as I just got a 'pump' for bonus reviewing. Yippee!

Thanks, Ted - I hadn't read yours before but I have now - we were certainly on the same wavelength.

Don't you love it when those little $3 pumps pop up - I'm sure it's related to time of day or something - sometimes I get 3 or 4 in a row. Other times you can review for an hour and not see one.

First thing I see is the picture, and I start to smile. This is going to be good. And it's brilliant.
Absolutely love it. Love the idea of a washer wanting to leave the room and the waste disposal graunching (spell editor has marked this as wrong, but what do they know? If it isn't a word yet, it should be.)
Big thumbs up from me. Hope, no flowers this time, but the real thing. All the best.
Tessa
PS: Hubby says my spell-checker needs correcting. I hope
your poem isn't contagious (surrounded by my domestic
appliances, I better don't say this out loud)

You're not the first to complain I have infected your appliance long-distance - a bit like Yuri geller making people's keys bend over the TV....

Yes, graunch is a real word, although it may be mainly British. It's the perfect one to describe that sound when a learner driver engages the gears without depressing the clutch - or when I rode my ride-on mower over a pile of hidden stones!

    Thanks for all the stars.

Haha, I know just EXACTLY how you feel, my friend! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?

You covered everything in this clever, witty sing-song verse, Steve. anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and at the most inappropriate times, too, it seems.

Great rhythm, impeccable rhyme, this one's an excellent contender to the throne!

Now, don't put that one on me - there's still a few things here that can fall over, crash or blow up.

Thanks for the kind words, Dean.

Another great contest entry, Steve. I started to read 'The Machine' but came back to finish this review.
Fine rhyme and even meter(as always) and wonderful sense of humor.

I especially like the internal rhyme with telly/ belly.

Best of Luck in the contest.

    Thanks, Ellen.

Yeah, should have added it's not a short story - more of a novella.
