Hi Kiwisteve
Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. Congratulations of third. There's something about a sonnet, isn't there?

Marion, thanks so much for your kind words and the six stars. Of, course I felt it deserved better than a measly third place! :o)

A wonderful poem. It has the elements of hope and faith and in believing in the future no matter the storm that rages without. I believe this too. I loved the temperament used in this writing.

This is a great declaration of love. Imagine, love as an impregnable castle that keeps all its enemies on the outside. She or he could ask for nothing better.

Love is a thing that is so strong and healthy for the soul. This poem shows that. I like it very much and thanks for sharing. JM

ooh, I loved this. It had such an old feel to it. I liked the alliteration and the flow to this. The imagery and descriptions were great. nicely done.

This lovely, sekiifully-written sonnet is both idealistic--conveying the strongest message about enduring love--and realistic--acknowledging that challenges and difficulties will naturally arise.

Janice - not sure how that happened - your comment didn't appear, but thank you for the five stars!

Hi kiwisteveh,
I really like your sonnet poem. It reads well and is one of the best that I've read. Although I don't know much about sonnet poetry it seems that this one has perfect sound and rhythm to it.

absolutely fabulous. I haven't checked all the iambic meter and I don't intend to-I'll leave that for the nitpickers.
I do want to say that this is abundantly rich in exquisite language."shudder at the gale', " our fortress love"
the enjambment is silky smooth and I noticed here fit perfectly into iambic meter. "oaken beams and granite blocks"-loved theses powerful metaphors to describe the strength of love.
and those last two lines are outstanding. eminently publishable.seriously.
I don't think I've read your work before . I'm so glad I did.

I actually got here by reading your review on Tonulak. it piqued my curiosity.

Thank you - even the nitpickers can't find too much wrong with this one!
I appreciate your kind comments about the language. I believe a sonnet deserves serious attention and should reflect its classic nature, although, of course, there are great modern sonnets as well.
These are about twenty times harder than my usual slapdash, humorous efforts - take a peek into my portfolio if you like and you'll see what I mean.

I can see the incredible effort that went into this one. I daren't even attempt it. I am too much of a fresh writer with too little experience.

I'd love to try a sonnet, where do I start?

Secure in love, we'll brave the wildest night
Yes love is a fortress....sometimes we take that for " granite"
Sorry couldn't resist
I love this sonnet and wish I had a six left
God bless
