No protagonists in this one. Well really, in a strange twist, the one protagonist (well, sort of) is the spirit who directs the dog to take out Flanagin. I know w/out any real protagonists, there is no justice to be had. Would like to see marjorie get her just deserts. And yes, dogs can be killers. It is not the breeds fault, but how a lot of them were raised. The methods they use to train aggressive breeds as guard dogs would turn anyone into a psycho killer. Only one problem with the story- forensics would be able to tell the corpse had been frozen and would be able to pinpoint the true time of death. Gruesome and damn good.

This was one spooky who done it? I never guessed it was the wife. You took us step by step through the mystery and though a bit bloody, it's a great story. Just in time for Halloween. Well done! I have to go feed the dogs now. Yikes!

Hah, thanks, emjaihammond, much appreciated.
They say that a dog never bites the hand that feeds it. Joel Flanagan found out that this was, indeed, true. Brut rein didn't want his master's hand, he wanted his throat!
Thanks, again my friend...

Yes, I definitely feel this is horror at its best. Personally, I think being mauled to death is the second worst way to die, the 1st being burnt alive..What can be more excruciating and long-drawn?
Very well done. I think I know who the winner of the contest is going to be. :) All the best!
I'd like to have read a little more about where that spirit came from..was it Marjorie? I'm a bit confused. :)

Thanks so much for reading this one and reviewing it for me, Salute Dobby. I sincerely appreciate it.
I had a much longer version which went into quite a bit more detail about the satanic female convict. However, I had to cut a lot of it out for Fanstory, it was simply too long for a post on this site. The spirit was not Marjorie, she was a satanic cultist who, years ago, killed several children and over thirty men, was caught and sent to prison, then murdered by another female inmate that was the girlfriend of one of the witches male victims. I allude to that fact in the mortuary portion of the story, but vaguely so...

This is an extremely interesting detective story that the author has created with this piece of writing. This has a dark and sinister edge to it as well and this fits in well with the Halloween season. It had me guessing right to the very end.

Thanks very much for giving this one a go, Tomes. I'm happy to know it had you guessing till the end, too. That's precisely what I had hoped for.
Thanks again for your fabulous review, my friend!

Ok, GREAT WRITING. My only confused part was, was that the ghost witch in the kennel? If you added something like, "you could see right through her," or something just a little more to differentiate between her and the possibility that it was his wife, it would be perfect.
Thanks for a great story. If your not a professional writer, you should be. Wonderfully descriptive and kept my interest completely.

Thanks, PageWizard, and you got it. See, you weren't that confused, LOL...
Nope, I'm not a professional, just a grunt in the trenches, trying to do my best to entertain, and scare the bejeezus out of anyone that cares enough to read what I've written.
Again, I appreciate you wonderful review...

Whoa. Ugh. Whoa. Fantastic write here as always. I don't know how, HOW you come up with this! I like graphic by the way. In this one though I really like the dialogue.
Untimely demise, really? This guy acts as if he's talking about some stranger he heard or read about in the evening newspaper.
It sounds real. Like a real conversation. Not forced. That is a true storyteller. Well done!
You gotta get these published. Does it matter if they are on here first?

Thanks very much for the encouraging review, Gregory.
No, I've had a couple of stories that are still on Fanstory published. The Ripper's Shack, and The Dugout. As long as they are not under contract to a publisher, and I am not getting any compensation for it, it doesn't matter to most publishers that they are posted here.
Thanks again for the great review, and those five stars!

Well Dean, I have to admit, I was completely against having anything to do with this. My first impression was, omg who wants to read crap like this? Yet, I was strangely (of course) compelled to "just give it a try". You have put together a combo of everything people don't, but kinda do, want to see, hear or read about. You may be a genius? Very nice delivery. WGT

Hah, thanks very much, Greg. I truly appreciate you giving it a shot. It is for a Halloween Horror story contest, so it's a bit horrific, naturally. But, believe me, I held back...a lot!
Thanks again!

A very grim and grizzly Halloween story with several twists and turns to keep the reader off guard. All very nasty people. The information on dog kills was disturbing. My dad owned a put bull, and it was the meanest thing I ever came across.

Thanks, Mr. 'T'., I really appreciate you taking the time to read this for me, and giving me your feedback on it. I'm very grateful.
I've known some very vicious pit bull terriers, and some that were as tame as a kitten. It's all in how their owner trains them to be, I think. They are truly very lovable, very loyal dogs if raised in the proper environment.
