A beautiful poem you've written there, Carolyn:)

The title is lovely: Come Morning.

The symbolic meaning of "morning" is significant.

Mornings suggests the notions of illumination and hope, the beginning of a new day and thus a chance for happiness and improvement.

Sunrise is a symbol of birth and of awakening. The coming of light, resurrection

The first stanza is lovely:

"The night and the blackness of it
has finally passed into the beyond
into that mysterious place
called the other side of the world
where twilight, moon and stars dwell"

The blackness of night differs from mornings. Darkness is largely associated with death and destruction (opposing the positive connotations which mornings signify)

"has finally passed"- foreshadowing the arrival of dawn.

beautiful use of personification- "where twilight, moon, and stars dwell"

The LOVE the second stanza:
"Yet in its place
a fabulous transformation occurs
morning breaks with a glorious
burst of color on the horizon
and the soft wispy fog dissipates
like sleepy-time sweetness from
the eyes of an awakening child"

The transition from a bleak darkness to the glorious sunrise, it's very effective.

A beautiful imagery is conveyed here "glorious burst of color on the horizon"- one of the five sense: sight

"and the soft wispy fog dissipates"

Fog refers to obscurity, it fades

love the simile here- "like sleepy-time sweetness from
the eyes of an awakening child"

child suggests hope and innocence

Morning light comes, hope arises.

Words of optimism and wisdom here:

"stretch your arms, elevate your spirit
embrace yourself and who you are
prepare yourself well, night is over
today, this new day, is your day to shine "

verbs like "stretch", "elevate", and "embrace"-suggest a positive connotation- this links well with "your day to shine"

Very beautiful, Carolyn

Free verse- strong, hopeful emotions flowing out

God bless,

Amanda

energize in the rapture of the mornings light
bathe in the abundant opportunities
that await you
confirmed anew for you and you alone
stretch your arms, elevate your spirit
embrace yourself and who you are
prepare yourself well, night is over
today, this new day, is your day to shine

Awesome, written with feeling and emotion, giving one hope in the new day, for a new day. Carolyn, this is great. Your choice of words magnify the meaning to the start of a new day.
Sorry I have not read and reviewed sooner, but I've been working crazy long hours. Getting here to FS when I can. John

I'm glad you liked this John. I have wondered what you were up too. (Take care of yourself John. I have been grieving for you since the Yankees did not make the playoffs, sniff, sniff, like the Cardinals did, hehehe.... smirk, choke, cough on my own lie....:-) Now, that is said and done, cheer for us OK? Go Cards, love, Carolyn
reply by jmdg1954 on 07-Oct-2013
Yikes, your Cards are down 2-1 now. Ohhhhh, my poor Yankees! Questions at every position. This never would have happened if George were alive...
I'm Dodger rooting. The only reason is because my all time favorite ball player is there manager!!
    Later, John

You've used wonderfully evocative language in this well composed free verse. Your metaphorical stance on the positivity of new mornings/new opportunities is very well develop and quite inspiring.

Ah! this is HAUNTING, dear Carolyn (no lesser word shall suffice)! The way you unleash your descriptive prowess in the first stanza (marked by rhetorical overtones) is HAUNTING, & made me feel as though I were reading a work by Frost, or even -- De La Mare!

The select choice of aphorisms (along with the similes) you employ, deserve boundless appraisal ; lends to the work an intrinsic appeal of its own .... much akin to what one finds in the Pre-Raphaelites (Rossetti, Swinburne etc.) ..... and I quote :

"each morning is new
fresh, invigorating like the very first
that ever emerged to grace the earth
with its beauty, its vibrancy
grand and bold, a testimony to life
a new beginning, a new day" -- the metaphoric effect throughout this entire paragraph is remarkable, & made me feel as though I had been carried away to some desolate realm of enchantment.

Like a picturesque rendition by Rembrandt, your emotions flow ceaselessly in an astute array -- marked by ease & dignity -- capturing as though, with the stroke of a pen, the very essence of life's vigorous optimism.
I might go on for hours with my eulogizing review; yet fail to the slightest justice to your profundity. This is just OUTSTANDING (& were I the judge, you might as well have won!)...

Dear Sagnik, I awaited your review like a mere fledgling awaits the coming of the sumptuous meal provided by the caregiving parent. All reviewers comments are important to me, and I appreciate each one of them, but your remarks invigorate my heart and soul. You inspire me to reach higher, to do better, to excel, and in some small way, pay homage to the greats of old That you refer to as though they were your dearest friends. You are the awesome one, love, Carolyn

    Carolyn,

To divulge the truth the bounty is all thine,
For, I am naught save a trifle to your fine
    and sublime prowess with wit & astute grace;
Your appraisal of my effort lights my face! :)

You know, Carolyn, my plight is exactly akin! I love your responses more than any other, & await them like a hopeless mendicant awaiting the benevolence of a Saintly Soul.

As for the rest, you know very well -- I consider you all as being none other than an integral part of my family itself. You people (along with these departed Gentlemen of yore).... are my life.

Way to go, girl. First thing I'll do tomorrow morning (after getting dressed) will be to open the door and breathe in the sun and fresh air--eyes and ears and arms wide open. You convinced me this is the best time of day.
