Both sad and elevating. Well structured and paced and with some arresting images and a little acid humour. Coming to terms with impending death cannot be easy unless one feels satisfied with the life lived. A beautiful poem.

I don't know whether to applaud your honesty in laying bare your trials, or your generosity in sharing the essence of what it all boils down to. Either way, or both, this poem is quite brutally heartening.

livelylinda,

I can only say you have lived with much courage, and though
the end may be near, I will Pray for you...I have had 3 heart attacks since 1989, 4 cardiac stents, numerous angioplasty procedures, a pacemaker, enlarged heart and now the heart showing signs of congestive heart failure...I Pray I will have your courage to go forward...
at 79 year of age, I do my best to keep positive...Your poem is so touching, and I am sincerely sorry that you are going through so much...
I will keep you in my Prays, may Almighty God keep your name in His Memory!

Warmly,
Victoria

Victoria, it sounds like we are in the same place. I have had six heart attacks, two open heart surgeries, 15 trips to the cardiac cath lab and subsequent stents. My heart is enlarged 4 times its normal size and I now have congestive heart failure. There is nothing more they can do for me. My next heart attack will be my end. I have a DNR order in place. I frequently have chest pains which require taking Nitro. It gets a little scary but I'm 65 years old and something takes us all in the end. Good luck to you, prayers to you. Linda

Yes we are in the same place, but you give me courage beyond what I already have, and I thank you for that..I have my Faith, but I can see my possible future in your poem..I am 79 years and as you say something has to take us in the end...I keep my nitro near my bed as often I am awakened by chest pain...
I completely understood your poem, and will keep you in my Prayers...my DNR is also in place, I don't want my children to go through any more...they have been with me all along...

    God Bless,
    Hugs,
    Victoria

This was a very depressing poem, expressing no hope, no light, only opening arms toward a slow death. Very sad reality, I believe so true for many people, who were left alone during their last days :(

Out of almost 100 reviews of this poem, you are the only one to see it as depressing, no hope, no light. That says something about you. Everyone's death is eminent, I've had a heart problem for the last 17 years and the old heart is finally on its last leg. I accept that and look forward to eternal life in Heaven. God waits for me. Thanks for reading. Linda

I'm not sure what it says about me. I reviewed only the poem. At that time I didn't know the background. I am sorry if I insulted you in a way. It surely wasn't my intention.

What an emotional road, I can't even begin to imagine. This poem was well written and touched my heart. I'm sorry that you have to go through this, but you are doing so, gracefully and heroically by the sound of your poem. I hope that when my time comes, I can only be half as brave. Best wishes.

My faith in God has made the difference. Plus, I have been ill for 17 years so this is no surprise. Thanks for reading. Linda

Speaking to the poem, it is very well constructed, many poetic devices creatively applied. Speaking to the context: I think you are a very brave lady who has learned much about acceptance and whose willingness to share is a generous jester that may help others facing terminal health issues. Kudos to you, friend.

I think this is to the point and honest. I would take the comma out after 'yet' in the second to last line. I see alliteration in 'cleared my conscience.'

You are brave to share this sad news with us. I, too, have heart failure, so I can sympathize. Your poem outlines the steps taken to be ready to finish the course. I would suggest you do some research on Dr. Bruce West. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

This is an inspirating poem. There are many instances I liked, particularly the last stanza is great. The poem is heartfelt.
Sometimes it is about quality, not quiantity, and do the most while we are here. God bless you. Thank you for sharing this work.
