That is a super duper poem! Such imagination and rhyme! Sounds like a pretend baby dragon =) I like the chewing gum part. It adds a nice interesting twist to the poem!

Oh, this is lovely... such a delightful tile of the friendly monster with the purple feet and jagged teeth blowing bubbles and getting a fright. I must be a big kid at heart, because I enjoyed it a lot. Giddy

I don't know how I didn't get around to this one sooner... delightful! A whimsical little jaunt into the land of childhood's imagination where flowers and birds sing songs in harmony, and dinosaurs blow bubbles and make new friends! What fun! Lovely and well written with so very good rhyming!

I could hardly wait to see what this was about when I saw the picture. Love the way you took all the scare out of the big green friend so that he's just an old dear blowing bubbles. Love, Jeanie

Hi Brooke
My goodness, what a look! With such expressions as that, I can hardly wait until he starts writing poetry!
Now is this purple-footed monster with green scales... Barney? The loveable dragon?
This is a perfect poem for kids.
"but just as things were looking glum,
I saw the creature chewing gum!" ... not a scary monster at all. This reminds me of one of my poems, "There's A Monster In My Closet", back in my portfolio somewhere.
Your monster is actually afraid of the bubbles popping.
"Then when he made a bubble pop,
I saw him take a backward hop.
His lips that once had formed a grin
now looked like they might soon begin
to quiver in a startled cry.
He'd scared himself, this big green guy." ...you've successfully turned the tables. Kids visualize a monster who is crying. So they gain some much-needed courage.
"Don't be afraid," I shouted out.
"There is no need to run or pout.
It's just a bubble, nothing more --
just blow another three or four."
And that is how we came to be,
the best of friends you'll ever see. ...this story teaches kids to look below the surface. Just because someone is different doesn't mean they are a monster. They might be your very best friend!
Nicely penned!
Thanks for sharing...wish I had a six for you.

Kimbob

This is great! A fantastic tale for children :) Not everything that appears scary is actually that scary. Creatures that we are scared of, might actually be scared of us. I need to read it often. Maybe it will help my fear of spiders lol Great job :)
