Nice one!
A great essay, well written and informative. I must look out for that book. We had an autistic boy fostered for a number of years. He went up for adoption. We still visit him occassionly at his new home. Still love the bones of him. Great kid. He's on the high end of the spectrum,a genius with electronic gadgets and computers.
Thanks for sharing,Shari. Brought back memories.

Anthony is on the low end and theraphy doesn't help. He never talks, but will smile. His mother loves him so much that it hurts that he won't touch. Blessings to you for fostering one. I'm glad someone saw the beauty in his soul and adopted him.

This sounds like an interesting book. I like the way you introduce the piece with a story and then move to a book review.

I would say non-fiction, suitable for some kind of magazine about parenting, even though the opening story is fiction.

In that case, you could change the first part to something alone the lines of: Imagine this scenario, which no doubt happens daily in stores across the country, etc. I think it is publishable.

Excellent article!

Cheers,
DW

The first past is true. But the novel is fictional based on facts about autism. I really didn't know what to label it. Thanks for the compliment. I may go back and change it.

I'm going to relabel it,DW. The opening story is true BTW .Thanks for the compliment.

I enjoyed reading this article. You made me want to read the book. I used to work with autistic children, so I know the heartache their parents go through.

    Bless you.
This fictional family tried all sorts of therapy. Nothing worked. From the boy's POV the only part of him that didn't work was his tongue (he couldn't talk).

I just finished Jodi's The Storyteller. Fantastic as always. Genova ranks up there with her.
reply by Dawn Munro on 21-Aug-2013
Oh. Genova - is that the author of one of the two books?
reply by the author on 21-Aug-2013
Lisa Genova is the author of all three books mentioned.
reply by Dawn Munro on 21-Aug-2013
Oh. I missed that! Guess I'll have to read all three, though I have NO idea when...yikes! :) Thanks for the recommendations, Shari.

Oh, Shari, I read that book, "Still Alice," and parts of it have never left me. I don' think I could handle "Love Anthony." The older I get, the less I can handle depressing things.

I've been well aware of the heartbreaking rate autism is rising. I had read it's more prevalent in boys. If that's true, I just thank God my sons are healthy.

Hugs, Lou

It is more prevalent in boys. This book is not really depressing. I found the ending very uplifting. It would make you not worry about those who live in another world.

Thank you. That will be on my next book list. I have a son who is autistic and was in the newspaper this week. He is twenty, lives in a group home and graciously took it upon himself to teach a non.verbal resident how to talk by reading to him. Funny thing. It is working. You have made me curious.

That's marvelous. Sounds as if he on the high end of the spectrum. Maybe a breakthrough therapy!

A very interesting and informative story my queen. I know a lot about autism and know that it is caused by vaccines. However, the doctors won't tell you that. It is a horrible condition and robs many children throughout their lives of being like everyone else. Asberger's which I have is very similar to autism. I have had many hurdles to overcome to learn to be "Normal" if there is such a thing other than a setting on a washing machine. Great job my queen.

LOL, you have a great sense of humor, Erick. Love the line about normal. I know you have Asberger's-that's on the high end and the victims are brilliant like you. Thanks for the review.

The book sounds interesting, Spitfire. There are so many unknowns with respect to the mind, and when there is a breakthrough, it's always fascinating how it came about. I will make it a point to read this one. It should be on Amazon.com, so I'll download it to my Kindle. Thanks for sharing this remarkable story and details about the book!

Wow! You are some reviewer, and hope you do more of it. Your beginning with the encounter with the autistic child draws the reader in. You included important information about autism and skillfully worked it into your review. It helps interest the reader in the book. You give important information about the author, as her background is relevant to her understanding of the topic. You tell enough about Olivia, the autistic child's mother, and Beth, the woman who wants to tell their story and perhaps figure out what to do about her cheating husband. Just enough to whet the appetite. You make the book sound really interesting. judi
