You poem says a lot about racism and the cutler back then when your skin color was your title. I am glad that now days we have become more accepting of others, even if there is still some racist people out there but we are better than we were then. Like you said we are all the same in the lords eye.

Yes we are. There will always be racists among us I?m afraid. As long as those of us who are not continue to speak out our nation will continue to grow, as will her people. Thank you so much for your review and your support.

Poets have always been the conscience of nations; America is no exception. When we call ourselves, a nation and look down on, or subdue some of our fellow human beings, we must take a hard look at ourselves, individually. To look on and to do nothing, makes each a culprit. Thanks for writing this poignant, conscience-raising piece. Be blessed!

This makes me think of a friend who was abused as a child. Her mind blocked it all out, but the memories are still there and they come back to her at odd times or in dreams. But I hope, as you've said here, that love will heal those rifts. I love her dearly, and I want her to be happy. :) This poem could have been written for the two of us.

This poem would be a great addition to any classroom studying the way our practices can affect our society, holding back those who should not be. And making room for all of us to find success, with the help of others and not by stepping on their backs. Well written.

I thought this piece made great use of proxy rhymes, particularly in the first stanza, to tie the piece together. What I really enjoy is the smooth flow and transition, I was reading and it ended abruptly which hammered home the final line as well, a nice touch. Really great work overall on this piece, thanks for sharing.

Mike,
I am flattered. I am not old enough to remember the race riots and the civil rights movement but I am old enough to remember the fallout from desegregation and I have seen in friends as well as family in the late 70s and early 80s be mistreated because of the color of their skin or because of the choices they made in their relationships. I don't want us as a nation to go back to that place. We've come too far and we have way too much to lose. I appreciate your kind words and thoughtfulness. I am very happy that you feel it is an important piece for our times. By the way, I have two adult children and six grandchildren. It is the experience of hurt I think that has taught me understanding. God bless. Belinda

We are humans and we tend to forget a lot of things. We should always carry on with our dreams and let make become reality. Time and love can both heal our wounds:) Nice poem
