I tend to bypass poems of faith, not because I don't believe but rather I find many of the poets promoting an image far different to my own ideas.

Here, however you have written, quite beautifully about the Jesus I've come to know.

'It is as it was.' The last Pope used these words to describe Mel Gibson's movie version of 'The Passion." I believe the same expression can be applied to your poem.

Thank you very much, Bob, I appreciate that!

Were it not for my Pastor, I would have never written it. But, I did so out of respect for the man, for I truly do hold him and his opinions in the highest regard. The man has been like a second father to me, and while he doesn't understand my penchant for the horror genre, he does not condemn me for it, either. This will most likely be my one and only poem professing my faith, for I am not here to preach, but to entertain. I'll leave the "preaching" to the capable hands of my Pastor, and the numerous TV evangelists out there. After all, it's what they get paid for.

Thanks again, my friend, much appreciated!

I like the sound of your pastor, he sounds a bit like my parish priest.

Thank you very much, Shelby. This is the one and only piece I will EVER write proclaiming my Christianity. I'm not here to preach, I leave that in the capable hands of my Pastor, Ritchie Pride. I am here to entertain.

    Thanks for that wonderful review!

An impressive display, and testimonial to beliefs, the poem itself, the colors, format and arrangement, make this an impressive piece of work.

Hi Dean,

Nice to see that you're taking your pastor's advice. Those whom God inspires to share His Word must do so. Otherwise, it is a "talent" lost. Nice also to see that your poem has been nominated for Poem of the Month. I wish you all the best where that's concerned.

Lois

Great poem Dean - a great description of faith and the story of Jesus and I like the last verse reaching out to other people. Good luck in the vote, you've got mine. Hatter :)

Hey Dean, I'm with you Bro... Just want to tell you how much the poem and the back story means to me. I'd like to think we as writer's are on the same page. Glad to see it was nominated and will get the exposure it deserves. I've had my eye on you," that whole circle of trust thing from the movie Parents. Just kidding. Seriously, your writing is worthy. All of it. Stan

This is a beautiful poem & even more interesting are the notes about your pastor's advice. I would comment on your writing more often here, if you picked topics I could relate to. Unfortunately, your topics are often out of the realm of my understanding. It's nice to see a straightforward poem in your enjoyable style, that I can relate to! Good work! Congrats on your nomination & good luck!

Dean.... I think we share a similar struggle. I missed this one, must have been posted before I started reading your work regularly and I'm sorry I didn't see until now.

I don't have my old chapters up so that you can see what I'm talking about when I say similar struggle, but I know all too well how writing dark things goes against what we believe and makes me question if it's the right thing for me to do.

As for this poem, it is wonderful and very well done. You have my vote. ;)

Thanks, Mel, I appreciate that. I will peruse your portfolio in much greater detail. It's sad, I think, the gems that writers post that we often miss because it wasn't promoted highly enough, or just missed out on because of circumstance. I've found literally dozens of treasures in author profiles just by going that "extra mile", and digging below the portfolio's surface. Perhaps I will find one of yours soon in such a manner.

Thanks again, Mel, for the wonderful review and vote, as well...

Oh, Don't bother looking... what I'm talking about is a chapter from my first version of Asthore. I'm still not sure if the one I'm talking about will make the cut. If you wish, I can reinstate it long enough for you to see. It's about my bad guy and it's... unpleasant. Think Christof Mactranahan unpleasant.

And I hear you about taking the extra time. Now that school is back in and I don't have an ornery little boy carrying out his duties as big brother (pulling ponytail, making his sisters cry), hopefully I'll have a little more time.

Yes, please do, and PM me once youhave so I can be sure to read and review it. Much appreciated, Mel...

Thank you very much, amarherig14. You're absolutely right, I did not want it to come across as 'preachy'. I'll leave the preaching up to my Pastor, and television evangelists. That's what they get paid for. But, I did want people to know and understand the depth of pain and sacrifice that Christ went through for us. There will never again in history be an act of compassion and true love like the one Jesus did for us all.
Thanks again for your wonderful compliments and outstanding review...

You are welcome, Dean K. I Have read other poems about Jesus but never told like yours. At the end of the poems I read by another authors ,there was a call for repentance.I think this should be left to the reader if the words touch him/her.Many Blessings,Margie (amarherig14)
