You are so right GW and it counts for something too. Today, happiness is a critter that is hard to come by so when we have it we know we worked for it and must hang onto it.

With the possible exception of hurricanes, I'd pleased happier than a porcine pet in a pond of poop to be living on the outer banks. As to your essay, I can really only respond to the theme. I concur that happiness is an inside phenomenon that pushes out even when others feel you should be sad. I am still a bit Polly Ann-ish about life and that's after twenty- some years going to all the armpits of the world (or maybe because of it). I think you've expressed the idea of happiness well, good examples.
