I loved Alyx! but then again I kindda love the mention of any animal that isn't a bloody cat XD

for the piece, it seemed the priest was somewhat forcing himself to think of Debra as "in peace" when in his mind eye all he could see was the manner of her death. other then that it's a nice piece :)

Hi, Kidlike. hehehehe You got me with your opening sentence - not a cat lover myself. Thanks for your kind review and insights. Much appreciated! Bev

Bev,

A delightful chapter with the personality clashed of the priest and Darcy. Perfect pacing and excellent dialogue!

Dog ears lifted and fell in shameless acknowledgement (chuckle)

Whatever the manner of passing, murder or cancer, the Mass was considered a celebration of the soul's return home. (Very well stated)

Words, fleet as a hare, erasing his sadness: I am at peace, Father. (Very nice!)

As much money as the Catholic Church rakes in every week, you'd think you could put a little of it aside to fix the damned door, Father!" (Nice conflict added with Darcy's fiery and brutally honest personality.)

Poor father. Poor dog. Why did she even bother to show up? The Heca, I'm guessing. You've done a great job of lacing this with mention of things many can relate to. I struggle with the sticking door myself. Here in south Louisiana the humidity seems to swell the door frame. Hazelnut is one of my favorite flavors. I bought a cheap one-cup coffee maker. Seldom use it. I hope I haven't missed any of the chapters. Don't think so because I am following the story quite well.

I enjoyed your very naturalistic, rather comic opening paragraphs as a change of tone, paralleling the priest's "respite from his task". Your "macabre mannequin" description is perfect as is the aside "apparent sympathy". What an unexpected zinger at the end with the "set-up"! Well done, as usual- Joan

Hi Bev,

There's a word for women like Debra ... probably get me banned from the site if I used it. A shame she can't get a face to face with the ghost!

I feel sorry for Fr. Brian, she's set him up, and frankly, if she were my relative I'd damned well forgo Paradise just to haunt her.

One correction I think -

We can set the cremains on a - surely that would be "ashes" or "remains"

Or is this one of your quaint American words for the ashes after cremation?

Patrick

Hi, Patrick. Thanks so much for the gracious review. Have you ever met women like Darcy? I have. I'm having fun getting a bit of revenge through my writing. Yes, cremains is a term we use here in the States.

I appreciate the support and helpful insights.

    Warm regards, Bev

Sadly, yes, I have met and still know a few like her. I take comfort in the knowledge they destroy themselves eventually.

Hey Bev,

Love this one! I just adore the interaction with Alyx. 'Cheap date' lol. Eghads, that Darcy is a piece of work, huh? A real witch, with a b, lol. And Brian is just a darling. Wonderful, engaging characters, whether we love or hate them!

I love how you show the action ... dried errant tears. Good one.

Nothing to carp about here, just an excellent chapter! Here, have a sixer!

Hugs,
Gayle

Bev,

The chapter advances the suspense of the story, and Debra Padgett's niece certainly adds to the tension of the occasion. The dialogue between the characters is presented in an outstanding manner. Darcy Shaw has a goal in mind when she visits Brian. She intends to cut the cost of the funeral by having Debra cremated, and she insists there be no mass because she cannot afford the luncheon afterwards. She agrees only after she has conned Brian into providing the luncheon. It is an interesting read.
