This is an excellent tribute poem to the monstrous tragedy at Gallipoli. I know the story from seeing the movie some years ago. I like the term bum-fluff, one I've not heard before.

This is an awesome tribute to the wonderful young men that were willing to fight for what they believed in so that their world could be a better place. i believe God has special rewards for those that give their lives for others. Great piece. God loves you and I do too.

A powerful tribute to our fine young men and women who gave their lives to defend our freedom. They fought under incredible conditions and bad military planning back in Britain. I can't believe it took eight months and such high casualties to figure out they needed to withdraw. Our boys fought valiantly and gladly gave their lives in our defence. They are true heroes. I love "A lone bugler across the bay" and your closing line., "Yesterday, today, evermore."
Great author's notes with the background. Yes, volunteers thrown into the malay, young boys not even trained as soldiers. A sad subject, but a tale that needs to be told and be remembered. You have done it very well.

This deserves a six on several levels for me. Firstly it is so very well written, with good rhythm and rhyme.
Secondly you have written such a fitting tribute to those young men who Never Came Back.
The third reason is, for the love of my mothers life, who was reported MI A presumed dead. He was found taken back to Oz badly injured. But four years later, before he could return to find her, she was married and had me.
So a sixes and tears for this one.

The infamous battle of Gallipoli. Being an ex US Marine as well as a HUGE WWI, WWII and VIETNAM history aficionado, I knew when I saw this delightful poem you've penned here that I was most assuredly going to read it. I must say, I was not disappointed! The battle was intended to capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople but failed miserably. Over 393,000 soldiers were killed or wounded. It one of the most horrifying scenes of carnage during the war.
You captured the spirit and essence with flair and a bit of an ethereal, ghostly surrealism which I enjoyed immensely. Fantastic job!
One thing you may want to have a gander at below, just a minor typo...
The men cut down as they landed
Weighed down with rifles; [standard]-->did you mean "STRANDED" here?. I only ask because it rhymes with "LANDED"
Shot to pieces by Turkish fire
Merely bum-fluff boys for hire.
