What a marvelous depiction of what might be going on in what's left of the minds of Alzheimer's victims. In my thinking it's the cruelest of diseases, leaving once bright, happy people shells of their former selves, and creating a living hell for their families.
You've done a great job with this story!

Thank you. In the five years at the nursing home, visiting my mother I watched it erode happiness. Wonderful stars.

This story certainly captures the essence of Alzheimer's in its Final stages. I remember my mother-in-law when her fine mind just faded away until nothing seemed to remain. Yet at time one lucid second seemed to emerge.

You show all the struggles and, as sometimes happens, a second of lucidity that may comes at times.

Love and Irish Hugs for a great story.

Roger

Irish ugs are my favourite! Thank you for giving me such a kind response. I spent five years visiting my mother (who was lucid) and watched so many people disappear while still in the room.

Your story captures the nightmare of Alzheimer's. Who knows what lucid thoughts come to the shriveled minds trapped in bodies slowly withering away. We assume death is a blessing for them, but who Knows? Only a power greater than ours. God luck in the contest. JefreyStone

I apologize for taking so long to get to this. I have been trying to recuperate from a case of the flu. This is superb writing. You captured my full attention immediately and the journey you took me on was both frightening and yet uplifting. What a terrible disease to endure for both the patient and families. You really did a superb job with this one. Most deserving of a 6 star rating.

I loved the story. I have some suggestions and spag. Take what you like, okay?
The Ancients--- it's a name for those who have acquired knowledge that they are reluctant to share with others. They say it is a curse and makes one long to go back to something none of us will ever have again.

Wow! What a haunting and powerful piece. Getting into the mind of a man with Alzheimer's, begging the Ancients to give him purpose. The word reconciliation suggests a parting of the ways. Beth wants a sign that he loved her, and her father memory of her name was all she needed.
wonderful story,

Hi Ingrid, you had me in from the first sentence. I was thinking yeah wouldn't it be great to be at the ancients level. Then I read on it became apparent the ancients were there but in a very different capacity. What a twist with a pike, Alzheimer's. You took my breath away, you talented writer. I loved the write and the outcome for everyone suffering. Magic Ingrid.
Kindest thoughts,
James xx

Hi Ingrid...your words bring back the memories of my father's death...very powerful and clean writing. I found no spags ... of course, I'm half blind these days, but I did try to help. Nice work, as always. x. Susan
